2010 SE Draft Lite Question

i got an se draft lite as a gift im pretty happy with it, so please dont suggest selling it or anything, only thing bothering me is the crankset. does anyone know what size bottom bracket fits in a 2010 draft lite so i can get a new crank+bb setup. or does anyone know any good crankset that works well with the stock euro cartridge bb that it comes stock with. thanks

Bikes: 2009 SE Draft (I know, I know)

haha. I just got a 09 draft as a present. The main thing I love about it is that I can ride it around and know that it is not on a thieves hit list. Kids will steal it, but its not a huge target (if they can lift it haha).

IIRC, a 3 piece BMX square taper crank set (euro bb of course) will work with it. I have been looking into getting a similar setup. I am not 100% sure about this setups compatibility though.

iirc it's a once piece crank, so it's a huge bb shell

i cant remember though so take pics. if it is for an ashtabula you'll have to buy a converting thing to run a british iso bb to run your typical square taper cranks.

wouldn't say it's really worth it though, you'll be looking at about a hundred dollars not including labor and buying the parts online.

It looks like one-piece, but I'm pretty sure it's not. The bb shell should be a normal 68mm.

edit - specs here:

I checked the specs out but it only says it's a 3 piece crankset with a euro bb. If it is a 68 the what's the other dimension? 103?

What length spindle you'll need will depend on what crankset you get.

i stand corrected. i think they were one piece at one time.

yeah bb choice will be dependent on cranks you buy. you can sometimes buy them together as a kit. otherwise, the spindle length should be included in the info of the cranks you buy

my friend recently bought a SE draft lite because it was inexpensive. the most deceiving thing about the the SE draft lite is the "lite." the bicycle's stock crankset/rear triangle weights as much as she does: https://www.flickr.com/photos/alohatron/4330311131

What is a "Euro" BB? England and Italy are both in Europe. Is there some other common standard I am not aware of? (I'd be shocked if it were Italian....)

On BMX bikes, two commonly used bb sizes are "Euro" (68mm) and "American" (think the huge shell on a Schwinn Varsity).

Interesting, since in the road bike world, threading is everything.... I guess we know their target audience.

should be able to

does he have square taper or power spline (as in, does the bb have a square shape or circular with a bunch of ridges/splines). If it's square i'd go for it since new bbs and cranks are more readily available. power spline your options are limited

As long as you're buying the bottom bracket too. Those Truvativs use a different spindle.

I think it may have a little more to do with SE being a company that has made BMX bikes (and some damn good ones at that) for a long, long time.

Bikes: yes

Hey I got one of these as a gift too ('09 Dawes MTA, pretty much the same bike). Someone should start a "What do we do with our Draft Lites/MTAs we got as gifts besides sell them?" thread. It's been a great city beater for about a year. I've put about 50 bucks into it (saddle, powergrips, better cog/lockring) so far so i don't feel like i'm polishing a turd, but i can see the issue with the cranks. They are pretty fugly.

i saw a draft locked up in new york with two ny fugheddaboutits (or whatever, the big ass u locks)

draft lite is a good bike, i just think it's still a bit pricey. i'm totally down with the rain/city beater bike though.

Bikes: 2009 SE Draft Lite

I have an 09 Draft Lite. Yes she's a beast, but then again I'm a big guy and don't mind the extra weight. I certainly won't be racing anytime soon. Thanks for the info here as I'd like make a couple of upgrades.
