Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? hmm, hard to tell.

specs seem okay (if those hubs are sealed bearing. since they don't say so for that but do for the bb i'm guessing they're not). unsealed hubs are more work to take care of and cheap ones are generally just not worth the money saved

the geo looks lax (not surprising since it's coming from a beach cruiser company). lax geo is okay though if you like it, it works out better for some people. the bb drop looks pretty severe though, which will increase chances of pedal strike.

at least it has 3 piece cranks.

not a rip off for 350, but not a killer deal. are there other shops in the area?

the schwinn will be heavier, but you might be able to do it for not too much more bare minimum. might not be worth it though depending on the model.

new wheelset with tubes and tires will likely be around 175, cranks and bb about 60, and if your schwinn has ashtabula cranks you'll need a bb adaptor for about 25. you might not need to swap cranks, but i don't know the chainline on those 1 pc schwinn cranks (assuming you have 1pc cranks). that's already like 250.

you have experience working on bikes?

I love the "lifestyle" section of their site... apparently going to the beach is now a way of life or some ****.

It is never worth it!

New bikes are never 'worth it'... Even used bikes aren't...

You are there, the bike is there, the cash is there... swap cash-for-bike and START RIDING!

Lots of options though, never think "this is the only one"... well, unless you are trying to sell one...

Yeah I second that... if you test ride it and you like it and will be happy riding on it, $350 is totally worth it.

What's funny is the pics of the "Mechanics" checking out the bike with calipers as if to say "We have engineers designing this turd"!

If you like the ride, $350 is a fairly rock-bottom investment in a new bike. Is it perfect? Of course not. Will it work and be fun to ride? As long as it fits. While the parts of a bike are important, spending too much time obsessing over hubs and cranks and bottom brackets is counterproductive. Any bike this inexpensive is a compromise (well, any bike is a compromise, some just put more of the load on the wallet), so if you like this particular one, go for it and ride it 'til the wheels fall off (just make sure that's not literal). Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the fun part, right?

And since when did someone else have my avatar?
