Velosolo chainrings? Good? also, can you remove the markings?

Hi all,

just strayed across this on the Velosolo website: https://www.velosolo.co.uk/vstrackringpol.html

It's perfect for a build I'm putting together.

Thing is, I'd prefer if it was totally clean and free from markings. Does anyone know if that's possible? Don't want to have to buy one to find out. They're 'laser-engraved' which probably takes it out of the reach of a bit of steel wool and white spirit. It occurs to me you could flip it round but that's probably not possible because of the bolt recesses, unless you put the bolts in the other way too. . . ?

Also they need to be good quality and lasting, anyone have any experience of using them?

I suppose the other alternative is another, equally high-polished, chainring from another manufacturer. Anyone know of such a thing?

I'd appreciate any comments

Cheers,
George

Those chainrings are really nice but unfortunately for you, the markings are laser etched.

According to the description :
"No offset so reversible without affecting chainline for longer life."

So unless they etched the inside of the chainrings as well (which looks to be the case from the pics), you could just run them the other way around and show off your chainring from the drive side only.

They look just like Campy rings. Probably find something like that used if you are open to it.

Try contacting the company to see if you can get one pulled before it hits the engraver

The third pic seems to show a blank backside, but it's hard to tell. Worth asking them though.

Batavus, that's a good link. Have you used them? How much did they charge to ship to Europe and how long did it take?

Ianjk, I got in touch with Velosolo and they did indeed offer to pull one before it hit the engraver.

Ogodude, while there's no offset, the engraved side is still machined/counter-sunk (if that's right) for the chainring bolts so you have to have your chainring bolts the wrong way round if you want to flip it over which is not ideal.

Scrodzilla, the guy at Velosolo also said that since the laser etching was only a few microns deep one might try abrasiving it off and then re-polishing. I don't know much about polishing though. Anyone know how you would go about this?

I got the VS ring but sent it back today and went for a specialites TA ring which went better with the bike. It's still got the laser-etching though so I might try and get it off and repolish it if I find other people have had success with such. Anyone?

Cheers

I would just leave it be. It's nice as it is and at least the logos are classy looking.

I have used them once and was very impressed with the quality as well as communication. Very straight and round ring. I think they also produce the fixomatosis rings. If memory serves me right I paid 5 us dollars to have it shipped all the way to Holland.
