Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Sure, I understand there are places where tire choice is much more important. I guess I'm lucky to never have to ride in those environments...

i will only comment on what i have experienced:

Soma Everwears are not good at all. the sidewalls blowout easily.
Armadillo Nimbus are quite good....a bit pricey, but all in all seemingly bomb proof. perhaps more puncture resistant than gatorskins, but i think gatorskins ride a little better.

I've always had very good luck with Armadillos, although I haven't ridden them in about 8 years or so. They may have changed. I even had a hard time driving a nail through a worn out one, on my workbench, with a hammer.
I've never flatted the Schwalbe Blizzard Sports that I have on my current road bike as well. They ride OK, possibly a bit smoother than the Armadillos.

Ride feel varies for different people: Lighter folks will appreciate a more supple tire, heavyweights will need something a little stiffer. Then you can layer on

interesting point about ride variance for different sized people....i have heard people complain about the ride of the armadillos, but i actually like how they ride...then again, im 6'3 210 pounds lol

Armadillos and Maxxis Refuse are both pretty puncture resistant tires and both have pretty long life if you ride brakeless. Having ridden both, I prefer the Refuse because it is a much nicer ride and they aren't as much of a pain to mount. They also don't have the tacky feeling after they get wet like the Armadillos do.

Armadillos are great if you learn to inflate them properly- at least 100 lbs psi- then they perform more like a tire and less like a garden hose. And anything can be punctured, even kevlar. But that's just my opinion.
