Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Is this a joke?

Is this a joke?

It makes it even better that the seller's name is "Twin Thunder House of Pimps."

Doesn't appear to be. He's got great comps. One could build the same bike for half that amount though.

It's not polite to hype your own Ebay auctions.

That bike is nowhere near as valuable as the amount he's trying to get for it. It don't think it's a joke, though.

I think you could build 3, and maybe 4 if you CL'd everything, for the price this guy is charging.

I emailed the seller to compliment him on his funny joke listing. He responded, apparently this thing is for real:

WELL I CAN LOWER THE PRICE A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE BETWEEN E-BAY AND PAYPAL, THEY TAKE 6%, SO THAT IS $165.00. THIS IS A NO JOKE FIXED GEAR BIKE. IT'S GOT MAD STYLE IT'S SUPER LIGHT, STRONG AND FAST, IT'S NOT SOME STORE BOUGHT $200.00 TO $1500.00 FIXY, IT'S A FUNCTIONAL WORK OF ART. IF YOU WANT A DEAL ON A PIECE OF ART E-MAIL ME

Yeah, probably could using CL. I was thinking in terms of new parts, framesets etc. Good call.

The wheel set is probably up 500 dollars or something. The frame cost about 200-300 dollar, right? Crank/BB would like somewhere around 200-300. Everything else probably add up to few hundred. ... The seller would need to explain what's so obscenely expensive about it.

But then who would buy that stuff even at "right" price? Schizophrenic combination of components. I would probably need to take it part and exchange most of the components with proper stuff. (Plus, colors! I thought I was color-blind, I wasn't the worst.)

Ummm ... The hubs are 200-300 right? Rims are like 100 for a pair. 30-40 bucks for lacing. Geez. An awesome deal, I would like to have someone buy my set for a price like that.

If caps is left on when creating an Ebay auction, you are entitled to triple the worth of anything that is being sold. Don't you guys read ebay rules?

If it was a University of Texas bike it might be worth $2350.00; as is -- meh.
