Hmmmm. My experience has been nothing, but respect from other cyclists when out on my ss and now fx. I'm a little older, so maybe that affords me some sort of deference. I'd been wanting a fx for a few years and the funds just recently became available for me to finish the conversion. Long past the point of being concerned w/fashion or appearance unless it applys to my living as a musician where one has to be dressed appropriately for stage work. Ride your bike, newbie as successful living is the best revenge.

The TT protector is a vestige of when I used to work as a messenger... it works as well now as it did then.

I love that 2nd quote. Funny story for all those "OG's" from 2005. My friend Sue is about 50, lives in southern California. She spent her teenage years and 20's in NYC, where I am now. When I told her I was riding an Iro, she asked, "is it fixed?" When I told her it was single speed, she said, "oh, no, you gotta go fixed, it's the only way to ride!" After talking to her for a while, it turns out she was riding a fixed gear bike in NYC back in the 70's. Whenever some "OG" gives me ****, I tell them about Sue, who was riding fixed BEFORE this city was sparkley clean and BEFORE they were even ****ing born. OG my ass.

I was introduced to FGs sometime around '84 in Boston by people who'd been riding them long before I even outgrew my Schwinn Krate. 'New' stuff is like 'kinky' sex... every generation thinks that they 'invented' it because there's no way their parents and older generations could possibly have known about it much less having done it.

We should always remember that we, as bike riders, have one thing in common: we hate people on recumbents.

Besides Sheldon Brown, whom I was very fond of, rode one before he died.
