Haha yeah, I left 40mm of spacers on just to be safe but I should be able to take out 10-20mm, I just wanted to be safe. My 722 has 30mm of spacers and I'm okay with it because I'm comfortable on it. I like to go fast, but I'm not racing so I value comfort a bit higher than aerodynamics. Plus, my gut only allows me to get down so far.

my buddy has a "mr pink" and its super nice in person. nicer than any picture can convey.
he didn't have a pair of long reach brakes so he rode it with a front brake only for a long time (and he's a messenger) (lol)

I wanted the Force brakes to work so badly, but they simply don't reach. I think I could file the slots enough to make the pads reach, but I don't really care for that idea.
Plus I want to buy some 32's to swap on this and take it on some gravel/dirt roads now and then, so I'll need the big brakes anyways.

Has anyone here lived with bar and shifters? My Europa is currently running Ultegra 9 speed brifters (for lack of a better word) and as you're probably aware, they sit up at that horrible angle. I'm not real happy with them, especially as my Hillbrick has the more modern style of brake lever that comes out flat from the bars and that just reinforces my dislike for the old 9 speeds. The obvious answer is to buy some new brifters, but sellers usually expect you to pay for them. Even MicroSHIFT levers are comfortably over $100.
I do have a pair of unused Cane Creek brake levers that will give me the comfort I need. It'd need to use bar shifters though - still pricey but my least expensive option.
So, what's it like to live with bar end shifters? I seem to remember looking forward to leaving down tube shifters behind.
Oo, there's an idea, I probably have some friction shifters somewhere.

Fresh Garbage
It is a little difficult going past 8 speed.

Then go for it.
Me. I have them on a commuter. Love them. Once you get used to where they are, shifting is just about auto-pilot -- your body remembers where they are, so when you reach for them without looking, they fall easily to hand.
These are on a bike with a 10sp cass (11-36), so they are the Dura Ace indexing shifters which will not convert to friction shifting. The Dura Ace 9sp and Ultegra 8sp shifters can still swap to friction shifting, if that's where you're at.

If you already have some old DT shifters kicking around, you can also get a set of bar-end pods on the cheap from Rivendell. Now that the prices have gone up in the secondary market for the Suntour friction barcons, these are becoming an appealing option. I'll have a set installed Monday on my MTB conversion.
