Blick, on your website it says that the "commuter mini" can be outfitted with a divider for laptops, etc. Would that cost extra? What size laptop could I fit in there? (I've got a 15" macbook pro).

blickblocks 05-11-10 01:46 PM

The Commuter makes a better laptop bag imo. I take the back panel and make a padded pocket with a velcro flap and accessory pockets, it ends up about 18" wide and 12" tall (enough for most laptops). The Commuter mini can fit a MacBook nicely without a pocket, but unless you've got an iPad or netbook, a padded pocket will be too small (16" by 10"). It's $10 to add one to your bag.

Thanks so much for the positive words guys! I haven't been posting here as much lately because I've been busy making bags. I had a lot of help here from other bag makers back in the day when I was just learning how to sew. Do Adam from Zugster or Dan from Seagull post anymore?

If you have any questions you can just pm me or email me directly. madeline@blicksbags.com

I have a Banjobrothers standard 1,500 cubic inch commuter backpack. This thing only has 1 big open space pretty much (it does have a nice side pocket and wallet and keys space though. It is also nicely made). Its so deep though at 8 inches (not height or width...but from front to back) that when I pack it....even with smaller loads...all the weight gravitates to the bottom of the bag and sits on my lower back causing some pain. I'm looking to get a backpack that is about half as deep (also a tad taller and narrower) so the contents of the bag stack up higher and is more evenly distributed on my back. I have a 30 mile roundtrip 4 days a week. I cant reccomend this bag for longer commutes like this. The only reason I still have it is because sometimes my girlfriend picks me up from work, and I need the full space of the bag to pack full of clothes for the weekend etc.

Blick I see on your website it says that the Commuter can be outfitted with different dividers for photo equipment/laptops/etc... Is it possible to make the dividers removable so I could do all three, or would it be one option permanently? Because if it could do all three, you'd have a customer.

blickblocks 05-11-10 08:33 PM

Look at the pictures. The dividers are on Velcro tracks, they can be removed. The laptop pocket is permanent install though.

wait a minute, i bought a seagull black bag after making some decisions based on this thread saved up a bit extra bought a large and i've got to say its amazing. its big and has more then enough store room for anything. my only complaint is that it doesn't seem to have a thick pocket because its a tight squeeze when you carry bigger things that have a more square box shape to them because the bags main pocket doesn't go out enough. Besides that its an amazing bag and i really don't seem to find a problem with it when its empty to boot :D and i'm tall and lanky which made me think it would be uncomfortable.

i love my $30 crumpler mahoubar.

That's why bags that are going to carry real cargo need 3D pockets! Black bag is Seagull's more budget model, so it's understandable.

i love my timbuk2. Its an amazing bag, that still amazes me how much i can actually fit in there.

and i never had a problem with my bag, it feels a lot more comfy than my bookbag before.

Blick your bags look sooo dope... How much would you charge for a basic commuter with the divider system like you had set up for that photog guy on your blog?

cc700 06-11-10 08:30 PM

my kemmer bag is still going strong as hell. such a great bag, and 40 dollars is impossible to beat. anyone else still have those?

plus, i ordered a timbuk2 swig for 60 because i had a 50 dollar gift certificate. so now i've got a backpack on its way to me.

and if that wasn't enoubh, i've got ortlieb rolltops with the backpack attachment, so i'm bagged up to my neck really.
but if i didn't have those, i'd be talking to Blicks as well. those look awesome.

ketto 06-11-10 08:41 PM

It looks like the perfect thing for carrying like 1-2 lenses plus body with your other day to day stuff, exactly what I've been looking for.

WoundedKnee 06-11-10 09:18 PM

I need one of those SLR cases that form to your camera, so I can protect mine from the desert sun until I get a good point and shoot.

avner 06-11-10 09:55 PM

I got my wig, using it right now on a trip to vages, it's comfortable as hell so far.

well the over sized flap compensates for that issue :D and i even ghetto rigged my own removable compression straps and wheel carriers. i got a big piece of Velcro with adhesive backing and attached it to the back of my bag and i stole some straps with buckles off an older backpack slapped some more Velcro on it and bam! 200 dollar bag :3

considering they're 130 new, yah i'd say so.

EDIT:

i'm loving my medium swig. it fits my lowepro toploader pro 75 no problem plus a jacket. just a rockin' pack.

ketto 06-23-10 12:46 PM

Yo Blick I don't know if you're reading this/got my e-mail but I'm still 100% down to buy that Commuter...

hellocow 03-08-11 01:50 PM

How is the size of the seagull medium/large compared to a chrome citizen??? I had a citizen but it was too small.

adriano 03-08-11 04:29 PM

i love my $7 waterproof rolltop. its a great daily and a solid air travel carry on too.
