Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? SE Bikes Lager

I sat one of these at the shop today while picking up my Surly, looks tight, tight, nice work, clean welds, very nice looking bike. Anyone know about these, how they compare to the Kilo TT for example. price was 650 for the bike with brakes, cow horn bar, pad, rack eyelets. Fit good too.

Any thoughts, thanks in advance?

I'm pretty sure I read on here that the Lager is basically the same bike (steel, geometry, components) as the Dawes SST. Of course, the Lager comes in different color schemes... are they worth $300 more? It's up to the individual I guess. They have some '09 Lagers at my bike shop for $500 and if it were me, I'd go with one of those over a BikesDirect bike. But again, that's just me.

Bikes: Fixed Gear

I have a dawes and had a lager, the dawes is actually a bit lighter IMO compared to the lager i had for a few months, I just hate that most of the lagers are that disgusting brown color.

I would go with the SST price wise as well but it depends on what your looking for in a bike and to spend.

They're not brown anymore. I think this year they've got bright blue/brown and black/white. The black one isn't bad.

It was my first fixed gear. No idea if it's the same frame as a Dawes, but it's a decent first FG frame. Relatively relaxed, average components, fender eyelets, braze-ons, etc. But the SE styling isn't something I necessarily like. Mine had a red chainring and pinkish brake levers. If you get one, get the black one. However, I do think at $650 there are better off the peg bikes to be had.
