Lilcphoto, how did you do that headbadge for your Madison? Looks great and a big improvement over the original.

Tis' a Vinyl sticker. I am awaiting to find a cheap Schwinn badge, but while I wait, I decided to make the sticker.

here it is!!!!!!

it cleaned up very nice, and fits me perfect too! i took it for its first ride yesterday and it is soooo smooth! and of course fast!
its was all original except the tires and the bar tape, even the brake cables said "schwinn 4 15 85"! i rewrapped the bars in white, and added the white vittorias. im going to change the chainring and cog from the original 50x16 to 49x17 and i am thinking about changing the saddle to a white selle italia turbo.

here are a couple pics, i will post some more soon.

some similar blue tape as original and some gumwalls would certainly look better, but to each his own - but really, get rid of the white tires. just go with a 50/18 ratio, should be only slightly different (a bit easier) and a lot more cost efficient. plus, you can keep the original chainring (the more original the better)

i encourage switching out the original saddle if the one on it isnt too great for your ass, black/white turbo reissue would look great as you said.

it is in extremely good condition from what i can tell, please leave as original as possible. NICE BIKE!

Makes me want to hunt down an original maddy now! Well, I'll find myself a nice vintage frame eventually, but now that I've seen that Madison, I'll definitely be looking harder at Schwinn's

Rode my Madison today and flipped it over to the fixed side for the first time since I got it. Wow, what a quiet bike. It also made it through some ice and slush without incident. There was a little fishtailing, but it stayed on track.

I'm going to leave it on the fixed side for awhile until I get more used to it. I had a long stretch of perfect pavement and really let it loose and it is so different from what I'm used to. One thing I noticed is it is much harder to get the second foot into the straps! Took me a couple of tries and now it is much easier. Think I'm going to try the Catalinas, they look like they would be much easier due to their stiffness.

Riding fixed is pretty cool. I have lots to learn, but so far so good.

Just bought an 87 Madison in amazing condition... Just needs the binding bolt for the seatpost and some pedals. It's late right now so the light isn't very good for pictures but I have the picture that was posted from the ad.

The seatpost is 26.4. Never cared much for the stock laprade seatpost so I replaced it with an Origin8 on my 1986 Schwinn Madison. That made a difference in my ride.

The Columbus Tenax tubing of the era is nothing special but its still a relatively light bike. You can only go as big as 25c on vintage Madisons. I run Michelin Carbon Krylion on mine.

Gah! I've been eyeballing Madisons recently, really digging the feel of the ones you guys have been posting but did anyone else throw up in their mouth when they saw the 2011 models? I mean, WTF?

I suppose I'll keep looking for used auctions, etc.

I thought the all red one was worth looking at. The white/purple/yellow! OMG, that is ugly.

Did anyone see Schwinn's new flax fiber, biodegradable bike? Translucent tubes allow for lights to be placed inside the frame for a light show, powered by a dyno hub. Coolness!

The 1987 Madison specs call for 26.6 SR CRE-100 seatpost, while the 1986 Madison specs call for a 26.6 SR laprade.

Hmm that's strange. According to this 86 and 87 Schwinn catalog it says the Madison had the 26.6 SR CRE-100 seatpost... but I just looked at my bike and it has an SR laprade seat post. I thought it was an 87 because of the suede saddle but now I'm not so sure. Oh and there are 28c tires currently on the bike.

Oh one more thing... The fixed cog is 16 teeth with the chain ring being 50 teeth. That gear ratio seems a little high... should I change it?

The specs say 26.6 but it really takes a 26.4 seatpost. That's what I have on my vintage Schwinn Madison.
