At 5'1", even the XS (which is around 52ish) may be a little too tall.

Wow, looks great!

Thanks,
Just took it for a quick spin of 4 miles or so after work. Forgot how smooth steel can be after riding my carbon and ti bikes all these years. The new Deda Flat bars are super stiff and the stainless cable guides are the best addition to get rid of those awful zip ties. Looking forward to riding this on summer nights with my Magicshine headlight to loosen up legs after my long road rides.

Reading this thread (over and over) and seeing everyone's pictures finally pushed me over the edge and I ordered one of the brown 2010s from Nashbar. If I'm lucky, it will get to me by Saturday. I'd been thinking about trying out a single speed for a while and this seems like an awfully nice bike considering the cost.

While I've replaced parts here and there and done maintenance on my bikes, I've never put a whole bike together so I hope it's more or less straightforward. This will also be my first single speed/fixed gear bike (well, since I was like 10 years old) and I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm not too sure about the stock handlebars, so I ordered some bullhorns along with the bike. I'll give the stock ones a try first, though. Other than that, I'm not planning on making any changes until I've put some miles on the bike and have a better idea what I like and don't like.

Those were a good idea. Your bike looks great. Were they hard to find, and what size are they?

Well, you will need to assemble fork, stem and handlebars which is no big deal. Brakes are in separate box so you will need to mount calipers and run cables which is the most technical but doable. My LBS mounted them for me for $20 but I swapped them to flat bar myself. The stock handle bars are cool looking but you will see that they are totally impractical. Almost dangerous when braking as the angle is so foreign. You'll see. Bullhorn or flat are way to go.
Buy the cable guides ASAP. Best investment. You need size 31.8mm. I got mine here but Amazon had them cheaper. These guys had them to me in 2 days.

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to getting out on this bike. I always take forever to decide to buy something like this, then once I finally place the order the wait for it to arrive is the worst!

Your bike most likely came partially assembled with the headset already installed.

Crank, bottom bracket and headset are all installed. Alan wrench is all you need. Plus wrench for pedals.

Nice! I'm a little jealous. I'm hoping mine gets to me on Saturday, but since I ordered yesterday that might be a bit optimistic.

I'm kind of glad to hear that. I figured the bottom bracket and cranks would be installed, but I have never installed a fork or headset and have been reading up on it and watching videos. I think I could manage it, even making homemade versions of the tools, but if it's mostly pre-assembled it will be a lot easier and quicker.

Ordered one on Monday.
Should be delivered Saturday says FedEx.

Maybe sooner as it's already chillin' in OH.

oh yeah... the "brown" in XL.
Planning on doing the old school Schwinn badge
like Monsieur Scrod did, and black schwinn grips
if I dig them crazy bars.

Assembled

Just got my 2010 assembled. I think the stem is the ugliest thing I've ever seen...and the handlebar second. Okay its not that bad, but I thought the handlebar looked cool on the internet but in real life it looks kinda dumb. Then again, I'm used to the look of old school quill stems.

I took it out for a very short ride since it's raining and found the ugly handlebar to be very comfortable. It rode smooth and it seemed to be easy to pedal yet kinda fast at the same time. I think I'm going to love it.

Brake lever placement is weird/impossible/silly. Freewheel sounds like a damn bugle or something when riding.

What's the diameter of that stem clamp anyway? I'll probably put a different handlebar on it.

Oh yeah pics:

I was using it as a hood ornament but it had a pretty harsh effect on my MPG.

That's the girlfriend. I think she was hoping the Madison was too small for me so she could have it.

Speaking of which, I got the XS and there was a sticker on it that said it would fit riders from 5'0" to 5'3". I'm 5'7" or 5'8" and find it quite comfortable. She's 5'1". I'm trying to steer her into a maroon XS Maddy

31.8mm according to the specs on Nashbar.

Nice pics. It almost looks like you bought the bike to match your decor. I take it assembly went without any issues?

I like the giant spoon too.

Is this too big to shim to a 25.4mm handlebar? It needs a porteur bar.

EDIT: Nevermind. Bought a stem. Sweet pics when that **** arrives!
