Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? sanded it down to a matte finish with 000 fine steel wool. I'm hoping that will be a good enough surface for the paint to bind with. Damn forcast calls for rain every day til god knows when so no pictures for a while

I did vinyl on my first fixed gear, an 06 giant bowery.
Had it powdercoated white and then named it after my hometown -Sheboygan-
along with 73 star decals on the fork.
I'd post, but this thread is all about the MAD love.

Didn't end up selling it, but I suppose that's what Photoshop is for... Though I have no skills, I don't edit photos.. Lucky for me, I can bug my fiancée to teach me the basics

Schwinn Madison!!!

is forreal the best bike you can have- yea track bikes are made for speed and stiffness=responsability and road bike for=duh the road
the madison takes into consideration all of the above and can smash!!!!! riding with my friends over the last month or 2 has got me to realize that this bike is something else. while everyone is riding their super expensive aluminum carbon fiber or steel frames, im still able to keep up with them while enjoying my smooth ride. I live in the east bay where there are tons and tons of pot holes everywhere and crazy drivers- so on a daily basis i have to hop on and off the curb-and i do it with no problem. I just upgraded my maddy with some omniums and a eai gold star cog and the handling is AMAZING
best bike ever

FTW

Plus, as much as I want to get a bike custom painted, the Madison isn't the best candidate. But I did mock up the Stickers if anybody wants to try it out

Quite normal for a bike that was not properly prepped and assembled. Ride one where someone spent the money and time to do things properly and you won't have the same experience.

madisons look classy and definitely do not creak and make noises when assembled properly and it is not hard to put a fixed gear bike together but you have to do it right and although this gentlemen prolly had some good tools one little misalignment could throw the whole bike off and potentially damage the frame or parts.

Yes, those are good things to check.

Maybe I've had good luck, but the BB/crank assembly has been nice and snug for 3 internet purchased bikes I've assembled. Definitely a good spot to check, though.

I'm just saying because 99% of the time when a customer of mine complain of creaking it is because the BB needed to be cleaned/regreased/retorqued

Finally took the plunge on that Nashbar special and am eagerly awaiting my burgundy baby. And trying to figure out what to switch first. I don't have the luxury of a parts bin, so I'm trying to plot out exactly what to do first, and I'm thinking the handlebars/stem. Would moving down to a 26mm stem give me more choices (I'm thinking bullhorns), or is it strictly a matter of preference?

Also, please excuse the noobishness. I've been riding a hardtail MTB forever, and despite reading everything I can get my hands on, nothing's a substitute for experience.

Yea, I get that. I had a creaking issue on my first bike that took me forever to identify and the BB was the first thing I looked at. It just turned out to be my chainring bolts in that case.

not as frustrating as if it is your seat rails, but that is somewhat easy to diagnose, if.............
