DIY Hip Pack
Needed a little pack to carry some crap in. Here's how I did it:
1) Found a little kid's backpack at the thrift store. 25¢. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4014/...33729e96_m.jpg 2) Cut out a cross shape (with like a 4" body size) out of the canvas. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3357/...74f2c190_m.jpg 3) Cut out another piece (same size) with some liner material from inside the backpack. You could prolly skip this if you wanted to, but I was going for broke. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3335/...551de378_m.jpg 4) Sewed it on with white thread for some contrast. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4064/...5627dc9a_m.jpg 5) Cut out a piece of leather from some old camera bag that I had salvaged. This is the piece that will attach to my belt so I needed something strong. Anything tough will work I'm sure. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3521/...c395752f_m.jpg 6) Measured out how long the slits needed to be using my belt as a guide. Cut them and sewed that thing on good. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4040/...d1c62019_m.jpg 7) Sewed on some velcro from an old saddle bag I found in my storeroom and sewed it on nice and tight. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4049/...f4d3c545_m.jpg 8) Finally, sewed up the edges with a sloppy zig zag, then stitched the whole thing together (easy) and flipped it right side out. Came out damn good. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3048/...20a808d384.jpg |
I'm a completely idiot with sewing machines...I don't think I can make a bag like that.
Where are you planing to attach to? belt? |
If I attempt, Say good bye too the belt loop. It'll be on my fingers..
|
That is pretty rad actually! Wanna make me one?
|
I made a accessory(phone/ipod classic) pouch for my backpack strap out of old tubes and a sewing awl, shall I post pics?
And you did a nice job, I made my own little pack like that but I never got to the belt loop part. Haha. I love tearing up old backpacks and stuff for materials. |
that's a good job! I've made little pocket protectors and what not out of old material like that..makes your proud when someone asks" where'd you get that!?"
|
I wish I was handy with a sewing machine.
|
pretty cool~ can this hold a ulock? cuz you gotta redesign this to do so if the current design doesnt hold a ulock.
we need more DIY guides like this. |
This is very cool. I wish we had a DIY section in this site.

Isn't it funny that all it took to make fannypacks cool again was to shift them slightly to the side. Nicely done!
