Guess I should have had it looked at...
It hasn't been feeling too bad, and the bruising is pretty much gone, but my big toenail never got color back. It's been about 5 days since I kicked that skid of paper, so I figured it was healing OK.
Wrong.
Turns out I broke the toenail off near the rear, under the skin. Now that it's growing back in, I can tell that one side is raising up, and pushes down easily. It's raised about an 1/8" (maybe a little less) and turning the skin right behind the nail red (be glad I don't have a digital camera).
I'm going to schedule an appointment to have it looked at ASAP once the clinic opens at 8. Gona have to go to one of those hospital places I fear so much.
I'm not really sure that they can really do anything for it though, short of removing the nail (oww) or taping it down and hoping it fuses back to the nail bed (just tried that with BET, was cutting off circulation to get it tight enough to bring down the nail)...
Maybe I'll get some workmans comp and off time from this even though I didn't want it...

Not much you can do. Except keep it taped down so it doesn't snag on stuff. However, I'm no Dr. even though I play one on the net.
I jammed my middle finger playing football. Did the same thing. The wild part was the nail started growing again and as it grew it pushed the old one out. For awhile it looked like my fingernail was cracked in half.
Eventually it just grew enough that it fell off. I did have a wierd hump in the fingernail area for years!

Any reccomendations on tape? Because the electrical tape is just too [edit]not too loose, just too loose to do anything without cutting off the circulation...[/edit]. And I do have a Walgreens across the street...

someone i know trapped his thumb in as door and the 'new' nail started growing under the 'old' one. eventually the old one fell off.
it looks pretty normal now. just make sure you haven't broken any bones though [someone else i know broke her toe, but didn't realise and now it's healed back crooked]

I'm sure there's no broken bones. I've cracked/broken enough to know...

Just some of that white medical bandage tape. Heck, a band-aide will work!

I didn't know if you needed something that would keep the pressure to get the nail down, or just to keep it from snagging/hitting stuff...
Man this is not going to be fun. This toe is prone to ingrowing on the edges (yeah, I know you all wanted to know that, whatever) and the thought of starting all the way from the back does not sound good.
Oh well. I should still call the clinic and see what they say... And it's 8:01 now, so I'll see yall in a bit...
Thanks for the info a2psyklnut.

something similar happened to me and I had to have my big toenail removed. Talk about a traumatic experience. I do still have that toenail in a jar with formaldahyde. It's a good conversation starter.
BTW, where can I get a cheap track frame in Munich? AAAAHHHHH!

I have no idea where you can get a cheap track frame in Munich. Ebay? Was the toenail destroyed so it wouldn't grow any more? This one's still growing, so logically (or as logical as I can be) it should be back sometime...
They wouldn't give me my wisdom tooth when I had it removed. I was bummed.
They told me when I called that I should just go to the walk in clinic since I have a doctor there (cmon, that hospital was my ER 2 of the last 3 times I was in the ER!) So I might do that if it gets worse. I think I'm just going to tape over it and check it each day. If it turns black, I'll go in. Maybe a dark purple...
I do really really really hate hospitals....

Thanks for the info Sohi, I think that I have heard about that place. I should check it out. I've tried bidding on a few track bikes/frames on ebay deutschland, but this courier from amsterdam keeps winning all the auctions!
My toe got ingrown and infected after a misplaced kick. The problem is that I let it go for way too long before I got it looked at. The new one that grew in is pretty funny looking, about 1/8" thick. Not as bad as my roommate's though. I thought I had seen it all until I saw his big toe. He chipped the bone, and it migrated to the side of his toe and is sticking out the side. Not the actual bone, but a good size hard lump. And I think his toenail fell off too because of that. Okay, enough toenail talk. Pretty gross, but morbidly fascinating.
