Anyone in BFSSFG ride with these? I'm curious how they feel and if riding fixed gear goes well with them. I see Nashbar has one discounted to $9.99, made of steel with 25.4 clamp diameter. It looks like a good way to try out mustache bars, I'm just wonder if it'll be really flexy.

For those that use these, do mustache bars work well with aggressive riding? This is for my commute bike, but I still go around 17-20 mph. I thought I saw Lance Armstrong with a mustache bar in that MASH video

I've ridded fixed with upside down northroad bars which are a similar shape, I liked them alot, been pondering getting some real mustache bars myself

I rode a set of moustache bars for a good month or so. I liked them, ish, but they were way too wide for me (I'm used to 40cm drops and bullhorns as opposed to 52cm). Took them for a few long rides, the 'drops' weren't quite as comfortable as I was hoping they would be, and I spent most of my time on the ends. As far as speed goes, I had no trouble using these to go 17-20 for extended periods of time.

They look comfy.

I have a set of Nitto knock-offs in aluminum from Ben's on one of my bikes. They are normally $17.99 and available in two diameters. I would get a proper mustache bar if you are interested-- not a mungo.

The Nashbar look like ****--- they have an angular bend to them. I believe they are super wide--- if you get a 56. The 52 are about the same as a Nitto--- and that is still very wide. I'd stick with Ben's/Milwaukee if you want something usable.

As for riding, I have them on my rain/townie. The bike looks freaky in a cool way, and I have the bars set rather low. I purchased them just to be different-- and that they are. There is nothing wrong with them. The bends allow plenty of room for climbing while standing up. I would not have them on my main bike--- but for a spare, they are cool.

There are some inconsistencies in the information regarding riding position with mustache bars. I know it's supposed to be used with high short stems so you are upright, but I've seen plenty of people doing 3-5cm below saddle level like with roadie bars. Then I saw this.

Kinda like drop position on a roadie bar. (elbow 90 deg, with hump upper back) ... Lance's setup was kinda low too. I guess I really need to try one. (if I can find one)

P.S. I haven't confirmed. ... Is that picture computer generated? Looks plenty old picture to me, but with all that paintshops I can't be sure.

And I used the Origin8 Tiki Bar, which seemed fine to me (aluminum), and seemed to have been much better quality than the Origin8 bullhorns I on a previous bike.

Looks like the '93 Bridgestone catalogue shot for the XO-1. Trust Grant Peterson shot an actual photo, but if you send him an email at Rivendell, I'm sure he will tell you. FYI, there's an NOS (sort-of) XO-1 on Ebay right now with those bars and that frame on full display.

That's what I'm riding now! Ends up being sort of in between track trops and moustache bars. I like it a lot, and get a lot of compliments to the extent of "wow, cool handlebars, where'd you get those"!

thanks for the info. I ordered the Nashbar one because I'm curious the steel ones, but if I like it them I might think of trying a different one. Plus, I don't have a 26mm stem right now

You should know by now, handlebar position is preference. Here is my Origin8's.

With the right setup, moustache bars are the cats ass. But getting the right can be frustrating.

Generally you'll want a stem 20-40mm shorter than what you run for drops.

I've got a set on my X0-3, naturally. I've another set kicking about that I've run on a variety of bikes.

Beside the original Nittos, Origin makes a nice pair. The On One Mungo is nice. Steer clear of the Nashbar ones, **** from the word go.

aw well, the Nashbar ones may suck. Maybe the co-op will have a something, but I doubt it.
