What's the Difference
Between
The new Post Your SS FG Photos!
The "What don't you like about my bike" thread
If your posting your bike up on the internet, or anything else for that matter, be prepared to take criticism along with any praise. The only argument for one over the other, is that in the "what don't you like thread" people may be looking for validation. Although if that is the case, you may have larger issues then what someone thinks of your bike.
Who cares what other people think is wrong with your bike, if you like it...
Shouldn't these just be one thread?
In hanging out in here more often, I have found that we cater to the sillyness that is associated with ss/fg, and it only seems to breed more.
I have seen moderators say "that is just the way it is", but it doesn't have to be.
Just my Friday .02¢

its been said, one is just to show your bike, and the other is to subject your bike to criticism.
the thing with the ss/fg bike "culture" (lol) there is a propensity for people to build or convert their own bikes. i could be wrong, but i think its safe to assume that ss/fg bike riders are way more prone to construct their own bikes or take something and convert it rather than going out and just buying a complete bike straight out. and if they do buy a complete, it seems they are more prone to want to customize the complete with new parts to make it their own.
and because of this, many ss/fg people build their bikes or convert road bikes or customize their completes in a less than functional way, mainly because of ignorance (not stupidity, just lack of knowledge). like wierd seat post heights, saddle angles, stem angles, stem lengths, wierd handlebar choices/setups, frames that are way too small/big etc. others want the aesthetics of customization so much they choose parts moreso for their looks, sometimes to the detriment of function. others just make clown-ish tarck bikes aimed at obtaining hipster cool points. or maybe they obtain a fancy pants velodrome specific track bike, but then never ride it at the velodrome ever and put street risers on it.
before there was the Jackass thread in which ss/fg riders could point and laugh at ridiculous ss/fg bikes.
the "what you dont like about my bike" thread is basically the jackass thread, the difference being the person has to post their own bike ;p

There is a difference between validation and constructive criticism and the thread "just to show off one's bike" would probably be more catering to the later. The other thread is more catering to the image of FG and making sure you fit the "scene"

- It's sort of like an online bike show where people show off their pride and joy.
- Although there is some criticism, it's tame because people are aware that this is a bike that someone is proud of and happy with (generally speaking)
The "What don't you like about my bike" thread
- Yes, this is for people seeking validation OR people honestly wanting to know how to make things better, be it aesthetically or functionally.
- Those who post here already have their flame-******ant suits on and are ready for criticism.
The Jackass Thread
- This is where someone would find a pic on the web and post it for criticism...or ridicule.
- This was unsolicited criticism which, as one might expect, rubbed a few people the wrong way.
Bike Porn
- This is unsolicited praise of a bikes that people find on the web.
- Being that one can't post one's own bike, it's sort of flattering to have someone post your bike there.

Only reason i posted in the what dont you like about my bike thread was because i wanted to see what people didnt like haha, i walked away with useful information in fact, my ride is a little more comfortable after being told to flip my stem, raise my saddle... just basic stuff that i didnt know about.

yah when i was more of a newb than i am now the now non existent Jackass thread taught me allot about what NOT to do with my build, and the functional reasons why.
