Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? North Carolina Fixed? Charlotte?

I'm going to be moving to Charlotte NC soon. I see there's a NCfixed but haven't been able to find out much. The website seems to be either under construction or non-operational?

Any Charlotte riders on here? How's the scene out there?

Any advice is appreciated.

I'm from NC and my roommate is from Charlotte, he says when he was in High school there were a ton of kids riding FG.

I'm in Raleigh, not really close or anything, but I hate hills just the same.

oh I'm looking forward to the hills actually. I have geared bikes too. And Florida feels like riding on a giant basketball court with palm trees. People around my area now take day trips north sometimes just for the hills and some new scenery. I plan to gear down some of my fixed ratios until I get used to it.

moving to raleigh / triangle area - bike scene?

I too am relocating to North Carolina and really hope there's going to be, hate to say it but it's true, a "hip" bike scene. I'm moving from Seattle, which totally rules for bikes, home of clubs with weekly rides with names like Dead Baby Bikes and https://point83.com/forum/, raging punk rock bike festivals with tall bike jousting, etc, and shops as nice as https://mobiuscycle.com/ and https://www.cadenceclothing.net/. So I said that stuff so you know what I'm USED to. Can anyone clue me in on what's up in Raleigh and in the area? If there's anything similar? Would really appreciate it.

I bought my lager from there. Guy running the shop is really cool and answered lots of questions I had. The shop is pretty small and they don't keep a lot of inventory out on the floor but they seem to have very good prices on a lot of things. They do carry a lot of FG/SS stuff being that NC state is right down the block from them. I'm from Fayetteville and stopped by after a recommendation from a guy I bought some stuff on CL from. I was fixing up an old Raleigh and they were very helpful in that so I ended up buying a cheap fg to mess around town with.
