A) I quit May 15th

B) Are you buying?

C) I try not to, but rushing and lack of groceries make it a necessity

I love being able to run up flights of stairs where people can barely walk up(lots and lots of lazy people, despite the LiveSTRONG braclets)

a) Fine cigars, usually no more than 1 per weekthough when the opportunity presents itself, usually in conjuntion with b), as many as 4-5 per day.

b) A weakness for good single malts (Pass the Laphroaig 15 yr old, please.) and unfiltered wheat beers, particularly Hoegaarden and Spaten Franziskaner. I must admit to using both in moderation after deciding years ago that I was getting too old for hangovers.

c) More than I should, not as often as I'd like. :D My wife and I try to eat a fairly healthy diet emphasizing fresh vegetables, fiber, fish, chicken, easy on the beef, and watch our weight.

Not useless. Not by a stretch. Cigarettes are very usefull. And I used to be a smoker, now occasionally I will. But they are extremely useful, if you know how to use them.

Ok, maybe for you... but not as useful as cocaine!

Funny... it've done all kinds of "drugs" but I have never smoked a cig. I just said useless 'cause for me the concept is useless... like the bang-for-buck value doesn't seem to make sense. I dunno.

Cheers,
David

I'm anti sue the tobaco lobby now. I'm pro quite smoking, don't start now.

But cigarettes have a use.

Social stigma that keeps some people you want away.
Social grouping that gives you something in common with someone you wouldn't normally.
A chance to get out of the office into "fresh air".
Gives some people something to put in thier mouth and shut up.
Calms some people down.
Fills the void of hunger when you're poor and starving (Back when cigarettes were cheap).
The sound of a match flaring up late at night in an alley.

cigarettes are a social tool for those who don't have any other cards to play.

What fraternity are you pledging? ;)

D) Dude, I just bought a kickass espresso machine. I drink alone. There may be a problem here...

And finally, I would like to add to the "gravy?" madness. Gravy?

as of 9/19/2004:

This is my announcement that as of tomorrow morning I quit smoking (Cigars). :)

I smoke(ed) ~6 cigars a day; Morning, Mid-day, going home, 3+ each evening.

I felt that smoking was not a clever act, I train for better cycling performance (on the bike and at the gym), I just lost 40 pounds (and feel a huge difference in my cycling capabilities), and I try to eat well. I also read in depth about cycling performance, nutrition, training techniques, and athletes life style.

With all of these athletic related activities, I was also smoking. Did not make sense!

In addition the way I smell, the rejection by other people, the comments about smell/health at the start of a cycling event (after smoking on my way to the starting point), the “need” to smoke to feel relaxed, the smoking in the cold winter (in the car or outdoor by my office building), the lack of attention I give my kid since I am “busy”, no car pooling to a cycling events, neglecting my house because I have better thinks to do (smoking), money, etc., did not make sense.

So I quit. :)

I do not see a problem with the smoking act itself as far as the addiction aspect. I will just have to adjust my life style to get over the habit aspect of smoking. Find activities that will take me away from my “smoking room” by my computer/TV in my home-office.

It was good that I stumbled into this thread and hope to get only positive comments and words of encasement…

I will post progress reports periodically.
