srsly, what is that thing on the back wheel, never seen it before.

wearyourtruth 05-24-10 11:39 AM

cleans debris and **** off the tire, very old school.

edit: they're called Tire Savers (usually) and they also flick off glass/thorns/etc before they are punctured through

powers2b 05-24-10 11:49 AM

Keeps the tire true

Enjoy

roadfix 05-24-10 12:08 PM

Flick stands and tire savers from the bike boom era.......the early 70's.

Looks small compared to others I've seen, is it a specific model or am I just seeing things?

Xgecko 05-24-10 01:40 PM

looks a lot like the one I had on my Raleigh 3speed back in the 70's, I wish I still had that bike

dobber 05-24-10 08:13 PM

I weep for that bike.

TheBikeRollsOn 05-24-10 09:18 PM

That bike confuses me.

Except for the absurd saddle angle, that's a very nice Raleigh Record Ace, from the 50's or earlier. The shifter is SA pre WWII.

check out the 1955 time trial bike

At my gym, I met a guy that raced back in the 40's. Road races and they all ran fixed. He said he'd use his gloved hand on the front tire to slow down and also to knock thorns out of the tire.
