First Timer Disassembly/Replacement Adventure
Hey guys, I usually just poke around the forums and try to scrounge up any knowledge, info or advice i can from previous posts, but I'm kind of in a quandry as to how to handle my current situation.
I have been picking up replacement parts here and there for my bike over the past 3-5 months. I have finally decided to sit down and try to strip the bike down and install everything I have accumulated.
The bike is currently disassembled down to the frame with the crankset/bb still on, and the my lockring and cog need to be moved to the new wheelset.
This new stuff awaiting installation:
wheelset: v's/forumlas
crankset: rd/messenger
BB: 68x103mm
handlebars: drops
stem: thomson x2
brake/brake cable
seat/seatpost
i have the stock HS, but it fell apart and im not sure the order in which it goes back on, i know i'm an idiot.
I have watched videos on everything from BB removal/replacement, setting up a chainline, and taping up bars. I'm just curious as to what I should try to do myself on the first go around and what I should let my LBS do for me. I'm pretty technically savvy and intuitive but my confidence is non-existent. I have a lockring tool, but no chainwhip, bb tool or crankarm puller thingy.
I would really like to learn how to the majority of the work since I'm headed Kodiak Alaska to be on a boat where I won't have a LBS at my disposal. I know I have kind of rambled but my point is:
What's the best stuff to the to the LBS, what should I start out with? I would really like someone to refer me to video, tell me to go install a certain peice and then have me report back, but beggars can't be choosers. Any and all help would be appreciated, I am currently at work, but could take pictures if somone deems me worthy enough to help. Thanks again all.

Just do it!
Trust me, you can do this. If you get stuck (which I doubt) post back and somebody will tell you what to do. It ain't rocket surgery.

Just do it.Check out Park Tools site for anything you're not sure about,there's a bunch of step by step repair guides.As far as Lbs,have them do the stuff that you don't have the tools for.

You are on the good path. As you noted you will need to buy a few tools. No biggie. The headset would be an issue if you lost something. Otherwise, you should be able to pull up an exploded view online and easily figure it out. As for the BB. Well, the only reason I would say your LBS is that BB's are one of those things that the bicycle industry has decided not to standardize. So, there are about 9,362 BB removal tools and they all fit exactly one BB. In the end, probably best to stop by the LBS for headset and BB work. The rest is all you.
