schwinn madison - worth picking one up?

I heard these are pretty good bikes, I like the 2008 blue the most.
What would be a good alternative?

Also, do the 2008 models hold their value better than the other years?

Scrod has one, and he knows ALOT about em. I know City Grounds has em for $400 which is almost unbeatable.

There is not really any year model that "holds" their value better, but one of the rarer ones are the '07 ones.

Citygrounds does not have the blue 2008 - I don't know who does. The only option is Craigslist or eBay.
What is the going price for a2008 Madison? In good condition, of course.

I know one popped up in Philly CL for $350. It all varies, sometimes it could be ridiculously high, sometimes low, you just have to get lucky.

My '09 purchased at my lbs (citygrounds 1/2 mile from work) has proven to be a sweet ride.

Yeah, I know a little bit about Madisons.

I bought my blue '08 frameset for $110 (shipped!) on eBay. I think that was just a case of me being lucky though. I'd say something comparable would be a Pake frameset.

While we're on the subject, I figure I may as well post some pics:

How is the stock Madison, out of the box? Any necessary component changes?

Seems like the going price for these is usually around 400 .

I never had any of the stock parts but they seem pretty decent. I've heard the wheelset is solid but on the heavy side. You could most likely throw a stock Maddy off a bridge, dig it out from the 2 foot crater it made when it hit the ground and then ride it away. You probably wouldn't need to replace anything right away unless you were looking to make aesthetic changes.

I'm sold; I just need to find a deal on one in my size, preferably under $350.00.

SCROD: What wheels/hubs and crankset do you have on your bike?

I think the going rate is more than $400 if we are talking brand new. The average cost was around $500 when I was looking last month. CityGrounds had them for $480. Everywhere else had them for around $550-$600.

Nice bikes for sure, Scrod's looks great - although Scrod, what happened to the track drops and white saddle? That one picture you posted with that setup made me want a maddy so bad.

How much does the Madison weigh? That would be my biggest concern with the bike.

The track drops looked killer but weren't very practical. I've got some back issues and very rarely used the drops. Since I was riding up top all the time anyway, risers are the way to go. About the saddle...to me, nothing beats a Brooks. My Madison is super comfortable now.
