looking to get the mercier kilo...
I'm looking to get the mercier kilo TT off of bike direct. What version of the mercier kilo is the best: ie. mercier kilo TT, mercier kilo TT pro. And what edition. There are so many to choose from and so many good choices, so what's your opinion on what's best!? Thanks :)

Pro has best parts, but if you are going to swap out the parts anyways, just get a frame with a color you like. All frames are the same(geo and material). (except Kilo WT and S3X)
"best parts" as in, best parts out of Kilo's. They arent the best, but they will suffice. |
The Pro has better cranks and wheels. Other than that, the only differences are colors and decals (the Stripper doesn't have them). Personally, I'd get the Pro which has been discounted to only $40 more than the Standard Kilo TT. The wheels are much better, especially the hubs.

Late to the game, but I got a stripper and have been very happy with her. The pro was not available when I bought, otherwise, I probably would have gone that route.

Pictures! Pictures! I always found the Red and the Blue stripper color to be pretty.

I debated the red, but went with the gold digger ... what's not to love about a bike called the Gold Digger Stripper? I've since removed the rear brake, added blackburn flea front and rear lights, and had to replace both tubes thanks to pinch flats on NYC city streets. Been very happy with it. |
Ahaha looks awesome man. Save up for some bombproof wheelset/tires once your stock wheels go poo poo on you. NYC is rough on your bike.

so in an effort to not create a new thread I figured I would ask a few questions in here.
I am looking for a fixed gear bike to ride around with in NYC. I have a Giant TXC up at my parents house but don't feel like using it in the city since they will be for different uses. I am looking for a decent bike, not to concerned about looks of it. I was eyeing the Mercier Kilo Pro, however I am 6'4 so I think I need the 60 frame and they are sold out. Is it worth waiting for the PRO to come back in stock or should I just buy the stripped and upgrade the parts? If you would recommend parts to upgrade, what would they be? (I'm not the greatest with bikes to be honest) My budget is >600 when all is done. Also, excuse my ignorance, how does a bike like this: http://www.statebicycle.com/ProductD...=ZOMBIESTOMPER compared to the Mercier? Thanks in advance for your response and patience. -Aristo |
Kilo TT is better.
If you can't wait for the pro, get a SST-AL |

If you can't wait for the pro, get a SST-AL I'll probably go with the kilo stripper then. Any recommendation of things that can/should be upgraded? I understand everyone says to just ride it first, but so I can get an idea. Thanks again, Aristo |

Make sure not to get a chrome stripper in size 55cm. They have been known to catastrophically fail spontaneously.

is it just that particular style or would a 60 matte black have issues as well? thanks, Aristo |

I would dispel the above rumours, but I do not want to be liable just in case the 56cm Kilo TT in Orange colorway will prove to be combustible : \

Stripper. Or a purple one would be cool too.
