Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

A request for BF Experts

Can someone take pictures of their bike parts, or take an existing picture, and list every single part.

Like, i hear people talking about chainrings....and im used to them being called cranks from my experience with walmart bikes...and it took me forever to figure out what the chainring was.

I think a list accompanied by a picture of the part and a small explination of what the parts purpose is will help me, and many other people tremendously.

Example of what i mean:
Chainring:

(enter a little description of the function of the chainring here)

Cog:

(enter a little description of the function of the cog here)
Essentially it would be a newbies guide to fixed gear bike parts and function.

someone PLEASE do it! if this already exists, please link me to it.

Damn it. I already cleared my calendar for the next week so I could rip my bike apart, photograph and label every piece of it.

No way, dude. I labeled each individual bearing in my GR9s. That was tough!

Not sure that it's the same, but instead of labeling, I named all the parts on my bike. For example, there's Stanley the stem and Billy the bars.

Bikes: See my sig...

Sometime when I am volunteering at the coop I like to mess with people... I am sure they are a little disturbed when the mechanic says he needs to look at the gear changing thingamajig or wheel stoppers.

When I was learning, I googled the part that people were talking about I was unfamiliar with. Worked 100% of the time, half the time.

when i was much more unfamiliar with bikes than now, i really wanted a website that has everything too. For me i need a graphic to go along with an explanation. It helps me understand a lot better. Takes a lot of googling, but u'll get there.
