Anybody have any opinions about the quality of these hubs? Seems like a pretty good deal, as long as the shipping is low to the UK.
Hey Ben,

I bought these wheels for my bike (https://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2004/d/walas.htm), i have been riding them for almost 6 months. The wheels have held up great, as for the hubs, well, i have had no problems thus far, but i dont really skid or ride them too hard. I ride about 100miles a week so far so good.

Plenty of posts on this board about Suzue Jr hubs.

Quality of hubset varies wildy to begin with. Soft threads can lead to stripping problems. Need generally to repacked and adjusted before riding and probably every six months after that. You need to also keep an eye on your lockring to watch for any play which may develop.

If you're going to skid, I wouldn't use these hubs personally. Aside from that they're cheap and get the job done if treated right. I would suggest the use of loctite with these hubs.

I used to have a cheap Suzue. I hadn't heard that they were prone to lockring loosening, but that definitely happened to me. I started noticing my cog unthreading, a disturbing feeling to say the least.

Hey -

I just mounted tires on that set (Black) this morning. They shipped my set the same day as purchased, but to the wrong address. Get it in writing, as I did this deal over the phone. It took an extra 8 days before I actually got the wheels, thanks to an honest homeowner.

On with the show -

The hubs are 3rd world to be sure, and one side of the rear had grease "bleeding" out from around the metal shield. I'm going to clean and repack first thing. Otherwise a solid set you wouldn't mind banging up in bad weather. Nice track nuts, good axles. They slipped right into my track frame. Also, they look fine from 10 feet away, but I'll have a niceer pair soon enough for next season.

Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.

You'll need them next season. I am assuming that you'll be riding this winter...

Missed this in the description the first time :

machined sidewalls - in case you use brakes .

I dunno about the whole "machined" sidewall thing, either - the sidewalls have the same painted black finish (not anodized, if you ask me, but I could be wrong) as the rest of the rim surfaces.

I bumped one rim against a bike while installing the tires and the sidewall scratched easily, revealing silver metal below the black paint-like coating. I'd hesitate to buy these again, and would rather get a decent used set.
