Motobecane Messenger Track
I couldn't find much information on these forums about the Motobecane Messenger Track from Bikes Direct. What are your opinions on this bike? Is it a great starter bike for someone who has never used a fixed gear bike before?

I have one, and it's a decent bike for the money. For starters, it's NOT a fixed gear as delivered. It's a single speed, but you can flip the wheel and add a fixed cog and lockring, which is what I did. The pedals are total crap, but otherwise the stock parts are usable. So for about $350 total you can turn it into a fixed gear with better pedals.

For a starter who never has? You may find out that riding a fixed gear is really not fun...as I did at first. I prefer to coast but there is something symbiotic about riding fixed.
I say that you will like it fine but I would say be careful about your purchase since you don't really know much about bikes. If you don't like the bike, you can't just return it. You have to pay for the return shipping which is like 50 bucks. If you go to a store, you can ride it and check it out and all that jazz. Most local bike shops have pretty good return policies where I'm from.
