What makes a good high end frame for fixie's
Ok you can all see that im new to this stuff but i picked up a fixie not to long ago and its just an sold concord. and my question is what make this a $50 frame and other 80's or 70's frames worth so much more. i see some are hand made and what not..what els make stuff like bridgestone bikes frames worth 500+ .
Side note i think im going to start riding my bike to garage sales looking for rare old bikes. so i want to know what to look out for. im getting an idea for some of the brands to look out for. but even then i see Bianchi frames for $100 to 500+ for what looks to be the same frame. any help or a link to a post with the info im looking for. |
There can be lots of legitimate reasons, such as the material a frame its made of, its brand (a BD brand is resale suicide as opposed to say bianchi), its condition (if it was stored outside at the mercy of the elements as opposed to a nice and dry and dark garage; "new years resolutions bikes"; owned by a bike mechanic/ professional), its rarity, its place on a bike maker's model hierarchy, etc...
There are also illegitimate reasons which would be a person trying to milk CL for profit, take advantage of the fixie hype for profit, etc.... |
ok for sure. i get condition and the material, so maybe a list of high quality 80's and 90's road bikes and brands. i got like bianchi, colnago, is njs a brand?
thanks for the help cutie! |

njs is a japanese organization that regulate japanese track racing (keirin).
njs frame brands are 1. bridgestone 2. panasonic 3. cherubim 4. makino 5. kalavinka 6. levant 7. nagasawa 8. nanbei 9. shimazaki 10. rap 11. eimei 12. watanabe 13. umezawa 14. samson 15. level 16. yanagisawa 17. gunwell 18. georama 19. civras 20. vogue 21. iribe 22. kiyo miyazawa 23. peloton 24. baramon 25. osca 26. ohtaki 27. stratos 28. giro 29. bomber 30. pro cyon 31. presto 32. emme idea/m idea some of these brands did make other, lower level frames eg. bridgestone/panasonic, so i wouldnt jump on either of these brands if you see them cheaply. although i highly doubt you will see any njs frames at garage sales in the US, as they were never distributed there, what you want to look for to know if it is njs is the logo stamp. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=168475 which looks like this. |
Don't start looking for something that you don't even know what you are looking for. In other words, do your homework. You probably won't find anything high end at a garage sale, if you do, you probably don't know if it is high end.
Your thoughts are all over the map...

Just always google the make and model of the bike in the ad; you'll be shocked that you can find quite a bit of info even on seemingly even 40+ year old bikes. ;)

High end "fixie?" Republic.

Good classic bikes models/brands to look for:
Ross Free Spirit Schwinn Continental/varsity |
Ross bikes are going to be way way out of his budget man. Those are... man , too rare. Just too rare.

This thread is full of win. |
i knew what he waqs talking about i was just being a smart ass. would make a sexy fixed gear tho..and you all know it.

Why do you want vintage frames so bad?
|
I can't believe someone brought up NJS, and forgot to mention 3rensho.
There's nothing special about NJS frames over a regular track frame, they just have hipster tax on them. Well, they might be painted better and be heavier, but that's about it. I remember in 2007 or 2008, bridgestones RB1, RB2, RB3 were going for something like $300-500 because of hipster taxes. NJS is simply a standard to keep competition about the rider than the bike he's riding while racing in keirin. not much different from how UCI dictates what a bike is for their events. It's actually kinda stupid to buy NJS parts when there are better parts on the market, from a functionality perspective. |

Prime example. Also found this site on our local fixed site. http://www.bdc-forum.it/forumdisplay...146&order=desc Porn material. |
HAHAHAH This thread is too good.
But yes, pretty much all older bikes are of equal quality. Frame materials and components don't really change anything. Just get something that has bright colors. |
I thought you knew a Colnago is just a Huffy with fancy paint job.
Just like how Merckx are actually Free Spirits in disguise. |
Yeah, your really just paying for a name. Damned hipster taxes.
