Hahaha that's hilarious. Stealing his bike may have been a bit over the line, but seriously, who locks up to a stranger's bike?

I had someone do that to me a few years ago. I sucks! I was late to work and I had to wait for some ****** to come and get his bike. I'm still bitter.

I probably would have done something similar. I can't stand when people do **** like that (locking up to your bike). What's worse is when it is locked to your bike AND the bike rack, then you have to wait for him to unlock your bike from his bike which is locked to the rack. If that makes sense.

I would have walked it home but left a note with a number.

looks like a beater anyway. half of me says serves the idiot right for locking to a strangers bike. the other half says it's a bit harsh to steal the bike, but at the same time, i'd probably make the same rash decision to move them, but the CL post is a bit much. i'd maybe throw one up to give it back as long as it didn't inconvenience me much

I'd have done the same. If it's sized right it could becoe a new project for him. Hell, even if it's not, build it up and sell it. With any luck the guy will buy it back for the ultiate vengeance.

awesome!
some thieves will do this with the intent to steal your bike later in the evening. he/she probably screwed up and forgot to also lock it to the rack.
when i was in college, people would find another lock on their bike and then walk home. the next day their bike would be gone.

I would be very upset, but I think a good solution would be to lock his bike up with a different lock, so that you aren't stealing his, yet he wont be able to easily get his bike.

I'm not so sure that he stole the bike. It's about the same thing I would have done in that situation! At least he put the ad up so the big stupid dummy has a chance of getting his bike back. I'm guessing the person was already drunk and thought he was locking up to a bike shaped pole of sorts!

A few years ago, I came out of the gym and found my bike sandwiched between the bike post and somebody else's bike. The idiot had locked his bike to the post as well, but put his u-lock through my bike's main triangle.
There was a hardware store near by, I walked over and bought a hacksaw. I went back, and sawed the other bike in half and got my bike out. I wasn't going to waste my time trying to cut the u-lock.

Would the cops do anything about this? I haven't had any encounters like this, but I was talking to a cop last night at the free bike light giveaway event and they seem to really want to help out the cyclists.
