Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

SS MTB thread

I searched and couldn't find anything on the specific topic of SS MTB. Can we start up a photo/general discussion thread?

I know this topic may span 2 different sections of BF, but I figured this was the most appropriate section due to the SS/FG nature.

This is my commuter bike. $100 de-logoed Crappy Tire (google it) Super Cycle SC1800 18 sp MTB. I removed the drivetrain and shifters, put on an SRAM S100 48T crankset and a Shimano 18T freewheel. It no longer has that lighting/generator system, but it does have cheap black plastic fenders. This pic shows the bike as of last year. This summer I installed Specialized Fat Boy 26 x 1.25 slicks but winter is coming so the Kenda knobbies will have to be re-installed.

I've got some Fat Boys too, right now the bike's in road form until my knee heals up, then it's back to knobbies. It's a Fetish cycles frame, with some crappy components I had lying around. I'm running 32/13 gearing, but I'm going to change it up soon.

There was a post-apocalypse bike thread some months back. For some reason that GT seems to me to belong there. What are the wheels?

I would love to have an 80s/90s rigid Stumpjumper or Bridgestone MB series.

120 rear, 110 front. I have some spacers on either side of the hub to make it work with the GT.

i dont see a justified benefit in going single speed free over multispeed.
