In the works... Arvon Powerhub.

Over the summer I received quite a few requests from people who were asking if we could build them a fixed hub and the idea met with great approval. I got to take a look at the first prototype this morning which is still a few steps away from being complete but still pretty freaking gorgeous.

Arvon used to make track hubs but for many decades has been turning out world class touring and tandem hubs and this new fixed hub is built to the same bulletproof standard.

Should have a few more pictures in a bit including a cutaway so you can see the triple cartridge bearings (2 on the drive side), chromoly axle, and drilled bolts.

It is also being designed so that one can reverse the axle and end caps to adjust the chainline by a few mm and doing this only takes a minute.

The lock washer on the hub will be inset and it has yet to be chemically plated to make it look like stainless... they can also be powdercoated in any colour that flips one's switch.

And... Scrodzilla gets to be the first person to test drive these new hubs as we decided to send him a set to demo and provide feedback on.

* These are turned out one at a time and built by hand to any specification one might want... in Canada.

Looks really good. What is the pricepoint for a hubset?

ichitz 11-04-10 01:44 PM

We will ship anywhere and hope to have some out to a few select dealers in the U.S.... just wanted to point out that these are made in Canada and not on some CNC in China.

:)

oh! awesome! for some reason i thought it meant u're only selling in canada. So what pricepoint might you be looking at?

We are working on setting a price for these... and can only say that people should be pleased since Arvon hubs always seem to cost far less than what they are worth.

Price?

Nice hub. Im interested in price and weight and spoke count configurations available.

gospastic 11-04-10 02:50 PM

what are the center to flange distances?

Hub shells are turned out of 6xxx aluminium, axle is chromoly, and the bolts on the prototype are 3/8 NF in a grade 8... figured that for the US it would be nice to be able to find a replacement bolt at any hardware store for pennies although the custom drilled bolts are pretty sweet.

Axles can be customized with 7xxx axles and QR's, my road bike has a tommy bolt and a 15mm flat, and we can do metric bolts too.

Sixty Fiver 11-04-10 02:51 PM

Will provide more specs later... :)

ThePritchett 11-04-10 03:00 PM

Is there anything to adjust the bearings, or does the axle bolt take care of that, like the New Sheriff Hubs?

Leukybear 11-04-10 03:33 PM

Possibility for a high flanged model?

Looks great nonetheless

No bearing adjustment is needed.

Yes... there is a definite possibility of this.

As Arvon would say, "they weigh as much as they need to"... and if you want more spokes they get a little lighter.

We can drill the hubs to whatever spec is needed.

:)

The hubs are back out at the shop getting tweaked... will be a week before I get them back and will see if I can't find a scale for the curious.
