Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Busted Pedal

I was doing a difficult left handed turn through traffic today at the main intersection in town, and as I was stopping to wait for a speeding car, my drive side pedal busted! The platform snapped on the outside pivot, leaving my toe clip as the only thing holding my foot to my crank. In the middle of lunchtime traffic, the only thing I could do was tighten the strap as tight as it would go and limp into my next stop. Not only was I fighting tough traffic, I was doing so with a broken pedal! What a day...

Really old Schwinn Sprint pedals. I am actually surprised they made it this far.
