Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

If you are squeamish, please look away.

My dog, when a puppy, contemplating her first kill, then the resulting horrific disembowelment.

If they get loose somehow and chase you on your bike please don't mace them, just ride away! I promise you can ride faster than they can run!

Sara, the lab/dalmatian mix. found feral at a local lake. likes people, likes other dogs/cats/horses/bears (not kidding). but seriously has a thing for tearing bunnies to shreds. if she just caught them, we'd eat them, but there's nothing left bigger than a stamp.

Willy (Beagle) found in a local park. Had been badly abused by prior "owner" (read: POS), then abandoned. wouldn't allow anyone near him. We know who the jerk is; Willy was chipped.

Ben (Black Shepard):Us or the needle, had failed out of five homes in a year. A friend in a local rescue orgainization bought him to my house one day while I was working on a bike. He wouldn't let me near him, but he relented after a bit.

Maizy (spotted dog): Found by my GF in her alley, wouldn't come near anyone. Amy managed to do it.Yea Amy!

The latest addition to the pack, found when we were walking the other three. Ben found her by the trash in the alley, left a box with an inch of her waste at the bottom. Starved to bones. Tippy:

She was very happy to find us. Wagged her tail from the first instant.

Posted on another thread but applicable here as well:

This is Apache, and he has been mountain biking, road biking, hiking, and rock climbing with me all over the country over the past 13 years. He rides on my shoulder mostly, but he is full-flighted and will occasionally take off and do a few loops over my head before dropping back down to my back while on rides. He is a fixture in the area that we live and often meets with some of his friends at Starbucks for a Chai Tea Latte, at McDonalds for a Sausage McMuffin, at Taco Bell for a customized crunchy taco, or at Burger King for a small burger, and we generally get in at least a couple hours of outdoor activity a day except in winter. He also enjoys breaking pennies into several pieces for the kids who meet him for lunch. (No kidding.... six to ten pieces....)

He is amazingly smart and affectionate, and my truely my best friend since my wife passed away.
