Foot caught in strap = me on the ground.

One of my strap ends managed to get wedged in with my shoe on my ride home today. Stopping at a red light, I started to pull my left foot out of my strap like I always do and to my horror, it wouldn't budge. I wasn't moving, so I just did the slo-mo clipless fall that I always hear about, but it was with straps for me.. Even as I was lying on the ground, It still took me a minute to get the strap loose. A lot of drivers got a good laugh i'm sure.

Yeah.... I've done that. Sigh. Feel initiated now? lol

Welcome to the club.

And hi Queso!!!

I joined the club Tombay about a week ago when I tried to make a tight U-turn outside of my house and hit the ridge of some black ice...

Black ice....

I took a similar fall last week but I use clippless pedals. I took my fall right infront of about 5 people and it was pretty embarrasing. My left knee still feels a little out of whack. That was my first clipless fall in over 5 years. If I would have hit my head I would have been just fine :) but the knee. OUCH

I was under the impression everyone on this forum performed track stands at every red...

I decleated today in the middle of an intersection and landed myself on the top tube. I'm sure drivers got a good laugh

TOTALLY HAPPENED TO ME TODAY~!!

I got to the light, pulled my left foot out, somehow the bike's center of balance was too far to the right, and down I went... Raining cats and dogs, I swear I went straight into a lake. No bumps or bruises except the ride to the pet store with soaking pants...

Similar story today, I mis-cleated and my jewels came in contact with my saddle...HARD.

Mis-cleated? So you missed the pedal or slipped off? Slipping was way too common with my LOOK pedals and I bashed my nuts a few too many times with them. All this is made so much worse by fixed gears

Squirrelli 12-09-10 11:42 PM

I slipped and slid down into my saddle. I thought I was clipped in and BAM!!!

That sorta happened to me once on my road bike when I had the single sided spd/platform combo pedals. Foot made contact with the wrong side, slipped off and my tail bone hit the saddle.. HARD. It hurt for a month and I had to sit sideways. Probably bruised..

I can trackstand, but not for long, so if the light's not gonna change for a while (you can tell here by looking at the walk signal) then I don't bother.

PlattsVegas 12-09-10 11:54 PM

This happened to me the other day. I went to pull my feet out of my homemade straps and I tipped over onto the asphalt. Not one of my finest cycling moments...

avner 12-10-10 12:22 AM

last night I went to slow down so check my cleats because I felt a lot of play on my left pedal and my crank arm fell off and I nearly fell off my bike because it was still attached to my shoe (spds) so I couldn't really stand.

dsh 12-10-10 12:32 AM

Ah the old "crank arm still attached to your clipless shoe" trick.

Gets me every time.

That's the funniest thing I've ever heard of.

hairnet 12-10-10 12:42 AM

I wish I was clipped in when my crank came off last year. I noticed the play so I rode home on legged and it flew off at the bottom of a hill

WoundedKnee 12-10-10 12:46 AM

One time my friend(who isn't really bike savvy) lost/broke his pedals, so he shoved some type of wooden pegs in the ends of the cranks and rode it like that.

iBgearLess 12-10-10 03:27 AM

Now we all need to meet up and tell our mis-cleating, foot slipping, foot sticking crank arm fallling off stories while having a few strong drinks!

I had a non-drive side crank arm fall off in the middle of an alleycat, so I rode back to my apartment one legged and switched bikes.
The whole time I was pedaling one legged up hill from Georgetown to NE I was thinking:
"This is gonna be a great story to tell on the internet."
And I was right.

riot2003 12-10-10 08:53 AM

waiting for the '... felt something a little loose, and then my non-drive leg fell off. it was such a mess and quite embarrassing."

Scrodzilla 12-10-10 09:02 AM

I'm glad I don't actually ride my bike and will never have to deal with anything like this.

Corwings 12-10-10 09:29 AM

Had a guy cut in front of me on my weekly group ride last week, he stopped. I tried to pull feet out, but strap was a but too tight, fell and ass cheek landed on his back wheel. Still have a big bruise from the axle bolt.

XianRL 12-10-10 09:46 AM

bhop, you're full of bloody stories lately. If I ever leave mid-Missouri for LA, I'm steering clear of you man. Nothing personal.:D
