Right, which is the reason it was asked on a public forum and not privately typed into google without ever being spoken of.

and just to make it clear the snarkiness is not directed at you, hairnet but rather the kind gentlemen who directed me to google.

Anyone make their own? I was thinking of making one out of duct tape and old tubes. I'm just curious of there any designs available for me to try before making my own.

i have seen this done, courier had what looked to be a downhill tube sewn/glued/w/e shut at the bottom and a bungie riveted to the top, just pulled the bungie over the antenna and donezo, not sure how waterproof it would be but it seemed like a tight fit and only the antenna stuck out the top, but i'm sure other designs could be conceived , although don't tubes degrade relatively quickly in uv light?

I don't know, man...I once made a wallet using only duct tape and used the thing for nearly 3 years. Adhesive coming off was never a problem.

Must have been the quality of the duct tape and not extreme heat. I repaired something (I don't remember what now), that was out in the hot sun and it melted into a gooey mess. Buddies don't let buddies use cheap duct tape ;)

I've got some old 27 Tubes that need to be patched, I might kill one and try and make my own sell phone holster with a hot glue gun thats somewhere in the house. I'll post details if I managed to do it. God being lazy sucks.

Anthropy 12-22-10 12:43 PM

Hot glue most likey will not stick well to rubber. You want an adhesive like you use in patch kits or some other contact cement.

Yeah, av - hot glue definitely won't cut it. The vulcanizing cement Tom mentioned or hand-stitching it with a needle and heavy thread would be your best bet.

avner 12-22-10 03:48 PM

I've got a lot of tubing and a lot of time now that schools over.
and a couple patch kits.
I'll keep in mind that hot glue isn't idea. and you're probably right. I was thinking of using it for sealing seams but I actually really like the idea of sewing it and maybe lining it with some waterproof fabric, or none, just something to make the inside a bit gentle on whatever is in there.

I like it already. Can't wait to get out of work this afternoon.

I just made one but it the phone doesn't fit as well as I planned =/

Pics or it didn't happen.

leave the cell phone at home, better yet, get rid of it.

it will make your rides and life far more interesting.

Until you become stranded in the middle of nowhere with a flat and no spare tube or a patch.

Squirrelli 12-23-10 01:35 AM

Go to thrift stores to find some cheap windbreaker of some sort, and sew it together with a loop thing.

Or find an old 29er tube, cut a piece out and sew the bottom shut then flip it so the seam is on the inside and viola!

x136 12-23-10 01:37 AM

Most of the middle-of-nowheres 'round these parts don't have any cellular reception anyway. Bring extra tubes and a patch kit!

Also, crackrocksteady gets some sort of anti-prize for most depressing signature image.

Squirrelli 12-23-10 01:49 AM

Good point.

Maybe bring one so you could spontaneously call a friend for a ride or tea.

avner 12-23-10 02:09 AM

ITT avner will soon be posting some poorly fashioned cell phone holsters. I've almost finished my first attempt. I've got 3 27 tubes that have gone flat, so i'm going to try a couple designs and post them sometime soon.
