Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: cannondale track bike

ooooo-hio

allright, so here's the deal
i'm planning to move to columbus next august...
I went there for a visit in July and I spotted only 3 people riding bikes over the course of an entire weekend. Now I'm sure since school was out there were less people riding bikes around...but what's the skinny up there in killumbus...bike shops, alleycats, courier companies, strip clubs, hookers, crack houses, bars, show venues, fixed gear gangs...where are the hooligans on bikes for f****'s sake!

s2sxii goes to school in C-bus. Evidently he's ridden at night or something...

Wow! a bar that hasn't changed its name in the past decade or so. I swear I'm about five names removed for every other place in RVA. Is Shockoe Bottom still condemned?

alot of the places are back up and running, but a good amount are definitely out for the count
man you need to come down here and take me on a bike tour of your old hangouts, cuz everything's changed...well except for the fact that college freshman are still hot, still too young for me, and still a definite temptation

Your mom is my best customer. HAR

Columbus has a nice bike scene. Lots of people ride, a few of them are actually cool, unlike certain members of this board. we have been getting great turnouts for our monday night rides, the recent messenger race (they never named it an alleycat), and the CM's. Traffic is fairly friendly once you get past the drunk college kids. I don't leave my bike outside much, but there are way more problems with vandalism of locked bikes than theft. There are plenty of bikers here, trust me. But you have to buy me a bike to be able to hang with us. I'll settle for a frame, so everyone can stop making fun of my Langster.

as for bike shops, there are a couple corporate ones, and a couple nice ones. Two are close to campus, the other two are within riding distance. As for strip clubs, I've only been to one. It was after a night of hard drinking with my friends of a rainbow persuasion, and I don't think i'll ever be going back. There are a few good bars, a couple great concert venues close to campus (the newport and Little brothers, I'll be seeing death cab, explosions in the sky, interpol, cake, the good life, and the decemberists this month -- we get some good music through here). I know nothing about the courier companies, other than there are a couple. What else can I say... hmmm. PM me with further questions. I was probably one of the three people you saw riding in july (the fat kid sweating on the langster).
