hairnet helmets

besides ebay, where can I pick up a hairnet helmet? No, I don't want it so I can be all trendy and retro, I just want a helmet that I can carry and not wear more easily.

um, that's kinda the only reason to wear one. they don't offer any _real_ protection... but they do look hella cool. i should wear mine tomorrow if the weather's nice. anyway, getting back on topic, since nobody makes 'em anymore, i doubt you'll find one anywhere _but_ ebay...

I heard of a messenger in Houston who was making those. That's all I remember, sorry.

I don't know what a "hairnet helmet" is. Can someone post a pic. My 3rd grade teacher told me I learn better with visual aids.

So in your area it is not required by law to wear an approved helmet? In my case I gleefully wear my helmet, since it is the law and 14 children on my street see me every day. I would not want to have these parents try to explain to their kids that they 'must' wer their lids when I do not.

I guess he is a messenger whose boss wants him to wear a helmet, so he carries one to put on when he goes to base. A leather hairnet would be a great way to thumb nose at boss like those flimsy motorcycle helmets worn by 1%ers to get past helmet laws. I carry a Giro, and I carry it on my head to keep my hands free and more space in my bag. Also if I fall on my head which happens about once a decade, it hurts less.

I actually just bike instead of using a car. I'm not a messenger, but I live on a military base where I am required to wear a helmet, but as soon as I get off base and start riding a lonely trail with nothing to crash on or into (surrounded by water) to get to the bus, I don't really want to carry a helmet (since I don't poser it up with a messenger bagyet), I ride in very safe areas and when I don't or when I'm riding hard, I put on a real helmet. I just need an excuse to ride the 5 blocks to the store and not get all geared out. I didn't ask to be judged on my opinions on "real" helmets, I just wanted to know where to get one.

I'm with you on that. Pro-choice! Well, I got the part about putting on the helmet when you go to base! I can't find a lead on the guy who was making those type helmets, likely that business didn't suceed. Maybe you can hide a cheap helmet behind a bush outside the base?

If only momovelo would ship orders placed on their website, then you could buy that one.

they have some really, really nice stuff in there though, it's just a little rich for my blood....at the moment.
If your ever in there though right near the front entrance on the right had side as your walking in; there is a really neat white track bike. The bullhorn bars appear to be mounted to the bottom of the fork stem, super low profile, i've never seen anything like it before....

Rancid, you must be new to that base..... or niave. I'm in the military and I ride on base too.

On base is about the un safest place around. Zombies trying to get to muster on time, lack of decent lighting, Base Police who are.... , who are not really watching out for you... Zombie contractors who walk infront of you.. Some of the worse roads there are..

You NEED a good helmet on base. In fact, getting a hair net is #1, just skirting the rules, #2, not gonna save you from the idiots, #3.. just not smart.

Do what you want, but trust me about the idiots on base...

but at least on base I know that the military will screw them over for hitting me. Out in town there is no such justice.

so it *is* the same on all posts!
the mp's luuuuv me... my barracks are close to the gate, and i ride helmet-less most of the time (except in uniform). i get nailed about once a week skirting from the gate or shoppette to my building. i just get a warning each time, and usually have to walk until the wiMP is out of LOS... never been actually cited, though. yeah, people drive stipud on base, but are they any worse than anywhere else?
