Track Bike Recommendations under $400?
I ordered a Dawes SST AL last night and got an e-mail today notifying me that it was out of stock -_-
So i'm back at square one again.
I'm looking to spend under $400 on a single speed Track Bike. I would prefer to get one with more of a road geometry (not too aggressive) than a tight track geometry. I'm mainly looking to purchase the bike on BD.com. Other than that, I'm open to recommendations..
What do you guys think of the Kilo TT? Is the geometry aggressive? I've seen a few threads about them.
I'm 5'4 1/2 and i was just thinking about ordering the Dawes SST AL in a 52 because they're out of a 50cm. Should i do this instead?

All bikes are "true to size", it's just that they are sized differently. The Kilo is sized c-c, meaning center of BB to center of top tube. The Dawes SST AL is sized c-t, which can either mean center of BB to top of top tube or center of BB to top of seat tube. So a 50cm Kilo TT is roughly equivalent to a 53cm Dawes SST AL.

The Kilo and Motobecane Track seem like pretty good bikes. I looked around in bike shops and anything I could find in your price range was hi-ten steel, yuck. I actually decided to go with the Motobecane Track, ordered it today. If it comes in before you buy a bike I'll tell you what I think. The Kilo seems like a better bike, but I'm using it to commute and will be locking it up so i went with the cheaper one.

The Kilo TT is going to have more toe overlap than the other bd bikes due to a steeper head angle, shorter fork legs and less fork rake. It's not an issue in normal riding, but if you're worried about this, then don't get one. Personally, I'd get something like the Dawes SST or Windsor Clockwork, which have much more comfortable road geo and can take bigger tires than the Kilo TT. Both those models have decent wheels and cost less than the Kilo, leaving you with more $$ for upgrades like a better saddle.

I feel like almost all smaller road bikes have some toe overlap. Both my 52cm cx and road bike have tons of it. The road bike it isn't so bad, the cx bike I hit my feet a lot when riding in snow. Once you get used to it toe overlap isn't the end of the world.

Look at the Iro Angus. Reynolds 631 for $400? Fantastic.

I've had a Dawes SST AL for 16 months and love it. Got it from local Bikes Direct retailer for $300 as closeout of previous model with steel fork and cyclocross brake levers. Bike is used for 16 mile daily commute, fitness training and has over 10K miles. Modifications: Changed gearing to 52X16 w/freewheel, bullhorn handlebars and clipless pedals. Performance: Bike is subjected to much hard riding and has held up well. Alex Sub wheels w/cartridge bearings tho not light are very strong, have stayed true and broke only one spoke so far. Also still on original bottom bracket. I got it as a daily commuter to replace my old lugged steel bike that rusted and came apart. I'm 5'8" and the 56cm frame with 172.5 crank fits well.
