Bumping thread due to personal interest. Good to know I'm not the only one who consistently finds threaded/quill systems far more beautiful. Re slippage and changing bars, stems, etc, it seems that by far the best solution would be a quill stem with removable faceplate. These are uncommon but do exist. And such a stem would probably be even easier to change than a threadless, in that there's only the expander bolt, whereas changing a threadless requires topcap, the two bolts that attach to the steerer plus all those ferkakte spacers... seriously, I want to experiment and move my stem down a mm or so and I have to remove the thing, take out a spacer and re-attach (and don't even get me started on what to do to raise the stem.) Other than the faceplate issue, is there any real reason to support the threadless system?
@cc700: you did what?? Ok, I get switching from threadless to threaded--I'm assuming you threaded the fork and cut off extra steerer length. (Is only threading the fork necessary, not the frame too?) But how do you go the other direction? And how do you get the threading exactly right and when switching back, do you need to buy a new fork? Explain please. Thanks and sorry for the mamaloshen. |
