Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Getting ready for spring...

Maybe it's a legitimate seasonal change, maybe it's just my ADD but I decided to take off the cruiser bars and 6-pack rack on my fixed gear. Since last fall I was in pretty good physical condition I like having the laid back cruiser style. Now after a cold winter spent not riding and getting fat I've decided to put the bullhorns back on and be ready for some longer and more aggressive riding once the weather cooperates this spring.

Anyone else switch up their bikes because of the seasons or make them more/less aggressive for some other reason?

I forgot how heavy steel bars and the rack I welded up really were. Bike weighs about 1/3 less with the aluminum bars and no rack.

After:

Amazing how different the paint looks in different lighting. Neither of these pictures really capture the bikes true color.

I liked the before, and not just for the beer.

No pics yet, but I just tore down my bike last and cleaned and re-greased everything. I had not cleaned my bike since fall. Purchased some new bar tape, I can't wait for warmer weather rides! Maybe pics tonight.
