Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Hmm, true. I think the clearance between cup and crank is supposed to be around 0.2mm. However, based on the fact that I've never seen Italian versions of SRAM or Truvativ cranks with longer spindles, I bet they've taken that 1mm out of the width of the cup itself, to keep everything compatible with the same spindle. If not you could probably have the LBS face away 2mm, which might create compatibility issues later- nothing that couldn't be fixed with spacers though.

Thanks for everyone's input. I just ordered a Campy C Record crankset and a Campy Pista BB. I hope I get lucky with the chainline like some of you guys had mentioned. All this worrying about chainline is NOT getting my bike built. Hopefully ignorance is bliss!
