I know, I feel bad. I'm flagellating myself as punishment. Actually the real punishment is not being able to build it for awhile.

No better time than now to admit I'm not super knowledgeable on rims (there are so damn many) other than what's expensive and what's not. With the exception of steals, I believe you get what you pay for.

So as of right now, I can only say that I'm willing to drop $650 to build the wheels when the time is right. Hubs I have a better grasp on, but to what should I lace them?

Suggestions?

Mack hubs are also four lettered and super nice.

It really depends on your style, if you want something boxy, the VeloOrange PBP rims are a good choice and the oh so popular Opern Pro and M13.

In my head I see chrome rims, high polish. Not the deepest V, but maybe 30mm. I'm more concerned with function than fashion, though they can often go hand-in-hand. I know Charlie had some nice chrome wheels on the Serpent at one point. Forgot what they were...

I would go for the PBP on Paul or New Sheriff.

I'm not knocking the quality of these parts, but I think I'd be willing to spend even more if the quality reflected the price. Two of those rims would be about $100, and the hubs max total would be about $250. With spokes, that total looks to be in the $400 range. I'd be willing to drop some more.

Then again, if I keep the price lower, I can save up faster...

To be honest, the ability and the experience of the builder matter slightly more than the product quality. An experienced wheel builder could build a quality wheel out of lower quality of product and an amateur could build a POS wheel from Phill hubs and Ambrosio rims.

Go with any one of the four lettered companies and get some quality rims.

What wheels you get obviously depends on what color you're going to rattlecan the frame.
