I guess I'm digging the texture a lot. Is this from the camera or a "Noise" filter from photoshop? |
Actually got a bunch of different shots but nothing quite came together and it was raining so I didn't hang too long. I liked the guy leaning forward toward the woman with umbrella in this. Looks a lot better larger scale. Going to print it big. Looks like a still from a film to me.
Texture is from not quite nailing the exposure on Portra 160. The perils of shooting a meter less camera sometimes result it happy accidents. |
I'm looking to upgrade from my 40D.....so, 7D or 5Dmk2 knowing that the 5Dmk3 will be making an apperance once the situation in Japan imporves...but it could be a while and prices are climbing quickly and supply is drying out.
I'm ok with cropped sensor because I like my 10-22mm lens and I understand the speed is superior in the 7D...I'm interested in low light abilities...that's more important to me. So....what would you do? |
I'd wait for the mk3. And there are no supply issues from Japan and no price increases, as per their press release. It's retailers here that are raising prices for no reason as a cash grab.
I'm in the same boat as you - 40d and waiting. Check out 1d mk Iv vs 5d mk II noise tests. 1d wins. http://www.canonrumors.com/reviews/c...ark-iv-review/ 5d has an old AF system, low fps... etc. It's basically a full frame camera with stripped everything. I wouldn't buy it at this stage. |

So....what would you do? For me it would be no choice to go with the 5DmkII. I would think the only thing that could hold you back is if you had a nice lens lineup that might be crop specific (as in 17-50 Tamron, Sigma 30 f/1.4, or similar crop lens). The 7D (i shoot with lots) is really an awesome body as well. I enjoy the focus modes and it, when paired with the 24-70, focuses very quick. Although i've never shot with the MKII, the full frame bug is something i was bit with a while ago. So i guess if i was ever to upgrade (i have a 50D), it would be a 5DmkII. Just something about the colors / contrast / shallower DOF that crops just do not match in my book. .Chris |
I live in NYC and have a few fairly large camera shops close to me...neither have 7D or 5Dmk2. I was curious and called Best Buy...they do not have stock either.
A few that do have them have added approx $200 to the suggested retail price. Aside from rumors, any ideas as to specs on the mk3 or price?? |
I only have one lens that I wouldn't be able to use, (10-22) but would keep the 40D anyway and would be able to use it if needed. I'm having trouble rationalizing buying the mk2 now knowing that the 3 is around the corner....but it could be a long wait.

Not a great photo, but I needed some excuse to bump this thread without a simple "bump".

There are some great shots since I've last checked this thread. I can't wait till school's over so I can start shooting again.

These were shot with my olympus xa rangefinder. It's manual focus.. I thought i had it zone focused enough for the self pic, but I guess I misjudged it.. I like it anyway.

Carleton, any advice on how a young guy like me can end up with a cool job like yours?
A lot of hard work, talent and a large investment in time. Take tons of pictures, and improve yourself. Study what you like, and learn how to take any kind of picture. Then: Get your photos out there. Give the away at first. Get your pictures and name out. Find ways to get them published. Talk to people who do work similar to what you want – maybe they can mentor you. Do it for the love, not the $$$, cause you ain’t going to get paid a lot for a cool job unless you are beyond exceptional. |
