Any Problem With This Gearing?

Hello All,

I have a Redline Monocog that I would like to setup for street use. The current gearing is 32/18. According to the gear calculator on Sheldon Brown a 32/12 would be similar to the 42/16 gearing I am comfortable with. I'm hoping I can spend a few bucks and swap out cogs vs signifivantly more bucks to swap chainring and probsbly chain as well. My gut tells me I'll need to upsize the chainring instead.

I believe that 13 is about the smallest cog that will fit a standard hub.

Yes, what kind of hub do you have, and are you running fixed or free? Some of the early monocogs had BMX flip-flop hubs, which have standard threading on one side and metric on the other. The metric freewheels are 14 and up, while regular freewheels start at 16.

Track cogs are 13 and up, freehub cogs are 12 and up (11 if you break up a cassette, depending on lockring), bmx drivers are 9 and up, bolt on cogs are 16 and up.

They sell a 12t cog but it requires the use of a special lockring.
