Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Went out today and road about 10 miles with my wife. We stopped and played tennis for a while.. thing is, neither one of us know how to play tennis, but the '2 rackets for $5' deal at the garage sale prompted us to give it a shot. It was too hot for tennis.. and it reminded me why cycling is such an amazing sport. Even here in the Florida heat, at least when I'm on my bike I'm creating my own breeze. On the dark green pavement of the tennis court, the air was still and my shoes almost wanted to melt onto the pavement. We decided tennis would be a good winter sport.

Later on, we took another ride to the grocery store for snacks. Looks like no rain this afternoon so we're firing up the grill for dinner and soaking up the A/C until later tonight when we'll probably cruise our bikes across city sidewalks and take in the night breeze.

Today I sold my raleigh mojave 4.0 (bought new in 07) for $60 less than its 2011 equivalent. It's going to be hard not to throw this money at my new bike right away.

I have an unpaid internship right now. Have to wake up at 7am tomorrow to go there. Great for your resume, and learning a little, but not much else.

However, I had a job interview today which went well (all but hired since they have to do a background check). Then patched up a tube and rode to the library. While I was locking up some dude that was riding past yelled out 'Nice fixie man!'. He was riding a single speed/fixed with risers and fat tires, and tiny gear ratio (maybe for stunts i dunno..)

my face when people yell out nice bike

Today was my birthday. I bought myself a very nice espresso machine, worked for 8 hours, then went out to dinner with my dad.

Received groovy bike parts, such as a Thomson stem and a nice pump.

Yes, I know it's from TF2. I played it back in like 2008 with the Orange Box. I'm not feeling Portal2 though.

Today (yesterday) was my birthday, too!

My debit card # got compromised. At least several hundred $ worth of charges so far. This is cash gone from my checking account.

Glad your birthday was better than mine.

Today I didn't ride my bike, after doing about 150 miles between friday and tuesday I decided that using cramps in my legs as an alarm clock was archaic considering I have a cell phone and alarm clock. I BBQ'd with my cousin, then smoked hookah with some friends. Then listened to a bunch of music brimming with soul. Now I think I can fall asleep, although this buzzing sense of excitement about nothing is making me want to stay up.

So your birthday is also August 10th? That's pretty groovy (we never got to have cupcakes in grade school )

So, for your debit card, do you have no recourse? I've read things about credit cards being safer in this regard, which really sucks because I don't have a credit card and don't particularly like the idea of getting one (although I probably will at some point).

So you say; then how are you going to explain your VAC ban then?

/on topic

Despite "pimping out" my wife's bike I/ we totally overlooked outfitting her with a road side kit and accessories such as a lock. So it's off shopping at the LBS!
