Still technically knock offs/ generic OEM through.... but not the hub! ;) And who built the wheels and printed their logos on it?

It's like saying phil hubs are made by alcoa because they provided the aluminum.

andrizzle 08-30-11 03:29 PM

today, it's been hard to look at the threads because whenever i see "leuky's" new avatar, i get scared.

but seriously after trying twice before, and failing, i finally climbed all the way to the top of Griffith Park without stopping. felt good.

Similar but not equals. As I mentioned before.

i wont argue about this but your statement makes no sense.

how can gipemmes be knock-offs [read: copies] if they are the manufacturer?

I was just saying from a literal/ consumer sense.

The shamal/ vento came out before and gipemme decided to make their own at a cheaper price to undercut, unauthorized by campy. Hence why I called them knockoff's from my terminology (I have a business background).

EDIT: I'm not saying that I don't believe you on the point that gipiemme was a supplier.
I'm trying to say they were a competitor who had a very similar wheel; but not equals.

Did my first race over the weekend. Criterium. Flat as a pancake. I was pulling the tailing pack for about a lap and a half, nobody wanted to rotate so I had to wave them by me. Went to the back, then the guy I was tailing started to fall away from the pack. I sprinted in front of him, and during my effort to catch the pack, I got bad pedal strike around a corner. Ate ****. Chewed up my shifter pretty bad, ripped my shorts and the jersey I was borrowing, and cracked my crabbon fiber fork. Lesson learned. I think I'd be more of a RR guy. I have endurance and climbing... corner, sprint, corner, sprint, corner just isn't my jam.

hairnet 08-30-11 06:38 PM

The fun of crits. Maybe next time go out with a cheap SS that has track geo

Higher Class 08-30-11 06:40 PM

The bad part is that I was on a road bike. I was just over-confident of my ability to pedal through corners. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Again, lesson learned. I can't wait to get back in the saddle and do another one, needless to say.

Leukybear 08-30-11 06:45 PM

oof.... at least you're okay. Yeah, the road bike part is very embarrassing but shiet happens....

homebrewk 08-30-11 06:50 PM

Glad you are alright. And don't worry: I has a similar fall about a month or so back.

dk2ck 08-30-11 06:54 PM

Today I realized I really want a road bike and/or a cyclocross bike. CX looks so fun.

Me too man. Too bad I live in FL, the slowest state to catch on to CX.

I'm really lucky I got out with just abrasions, but most of all I'm glad that I didn't cause anyone else to crash.

redpear 08-30-11 07:17 PM

Today I learned that I'm allergic to tegaderm.

Oh well, at least the damn thing healed.

congrats, my background is dutch.

i said i wouldnt argue this so i'll just leave this here --please explain how a rim that is manufactured using the exact same process and materials by the same manufacturer is not equal? kthxbai

I don't care and I already did. Rim≠wheelset; there are many more variables to consider between the two.

91MF 08-30-11 09:01 PM

i just checked back and realized i was saying wheel the whole time when i def just meant the rim. agreed, the hubs are not equal. i concede defeat.

this time.

Today I bought a frame... some piece of shiz cranks were on it... they have some sort of funny symbol on the back side. Not sure if I should just toss them, or try and trade them for something else...

/sarcasm, but seriously...if someone wants to trade for some om-nom-nom's pm me

High BB + short cranks = pedal through any corner

rustybrown 08-31-11 12:53 AM

Low BB + 170s = skipping and sketchy, yet smaller turning radius/not falling.

CX! CX! CX! I am going to try to learn the CX dismount/remount this weekend and see where it goes from there. I already have the right kind of bike; I just need to HTFU and do it.

Today there was a crazy headwind along the lake on my ride in this morning. I realize that as a cyclist I have it easy here in Chicago, what with the lack of any sort of hills. But I'd take a hill over 35+ minutes of relentless headwind any day. At least a hill has the other side... often by the time I get out of work 9 hours later and go home, what should be a tailwind has died down or shifted direction.

nuhtowel 08-31-11 08:49 AM

Today I wished my fixed gear had gears, or suddenly transformed into a cross bike

Street rider 08-31-11 06:04 PM

Today I sorta bit it on my ride. Not really any harm to me, and not tooooo much to the bike. Just feel sorta lucky right now.

In San Francisco you get both strong winds and of course the hills. The 'other side' is not exactly fun either though. Especially brakeless.

Also, the CX mount and dismount is pretty smooth. It's a really neat thing for urban riders to know as well. It definitely feels better to 'come in hot' and take off with a little boost.

Leukybear 08-31-11 07:49 PM

Today I overhauled my paddywagon commuter's drivetrain; well deserved after the 12 consecutive fixed metric centuries. Repacked the DA 7600 hubs. Also swapped back over a modest 46T zen messenger chainring from the 49T zen I had on it earlier. My omniums had a considerable layer of grime on the back of them.
