today i...well actually right now...i am starting shopping to replace my beloved lugged maxway framed bike, a car ran me down on monday.
this is the 2nd time in less than 6 months it happened, with the same type frame too. if it wasn't me, it would actually be an interesting story & i should start a new thread to tell the whole tale of how it happened on mon but i am so downhearted that i am not up to it at the moment. not to mention that funds are tight until i get some insurance money, which is no sure thing & it turns out that my parts bin is not quite as full as i thought it was. i want & need to get back riding asap but am pretty bewildered about just what to do. wish me luck... |
Good luck!

http://i56.tinypic.com/2dkz2o5.jpg I asked C&V too, but figured there was some vintage conversion type folks around here too Might wanna wait for an older one if you value horizontal dropouts. I know the 87s still had short horiz drops, you can check catalogs @Mr. Brown's site to see how long that lasted. |
Today I am in the worst mood. It's amazing how long I can go on autopilot thinking everything's ok and then when I stop and start thinking about/evaluating things, realize it's not. Nothing that can't be fixed, likely, but it's gonna take some painful, come-to-Jesus discussions.

well I may not convert this one if I get it, since it looks like it's in such nice shape. though those dropouts seem fine too.
well, at least ride it a year before you convert it. if you decide you dont want it after a summer or whatever it will have more value complete. |
Today I went an looked at a retail location for Retrogression that almost seems too good to be true. I've got a lot of overthinking to do.
|
@91mf: yeah that's basically my feeling on it. Once he sent me the picture and I saw the condition I felt like it would be taboo to immediately strip it. should be picking it up tomorrow
@scrod: oh you were down in Houston? sweet! |
If this restaurant doesn't work out and you open retrogression retail, ill come work for you.
|
Today I put my 1998 Magna mountain bike on craigslist to start a [small] hobby fund, so I'm not broke all the time buying bike stuff.
|
today i had my no helmet ticket dismissed. the judge made fun of me for doing community service (fixing kids bikes at the npo) without being ordered. but whatever, i paid bike shops and bike advocacy instead of court fines! **** yeah!

Dude, I'm with jimmytango! I'll work for free man! (As long as you provide the closet, and roast beef sammiches)

http://i54.tinypic.com/2luool.jpg All of your money now belongs to the bike. Now would be a good time to (re?)acquaint yourself with the rules. |
Today I finished my road bike. I realized that I went the wrong direction on one side of the handlebar wrap. **** it.

Today I took my road bike for her maiden voyage. I've named her "The Falcon" because "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid." Easily beat the two KOM sections that I had set with my fixed gear. Although I don't think I quite remember how to coast... lol
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...26773692_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...19344225_n.jpg I'll take some proper pictures in a few days. Thanks Leukybear for these gems, they helped a bunch: Just putting in some insight. I have lots of experience with the tape; I've always cleaned my bars, even new, with alcohol and let it fully evaporate after drying in preparation for the tape. When it comes to wrapping, even though the package says not to stretch the tape, it can and has to be stretched slightly in order for the tape to not start unraveling (that's what happened to you I presume?). The trick with stretching it is to regulate the force you use to stretch the tape while wrapping so the tape does not outstretch and become thin while still being able to sufficiently cling itself via the underside adhesive contacting itself with the bar and the cling from the stretch. Upon finishing, you should use the larger than usual provided adhesive strip to wrap the entirety of it's width on the tape itself at the top with even pressure (consult above so you do not compress the underlying tape as well; ~~the adhesive strip does not need to make contact with the bar to ensure maximum hold on the tape. Also make sure the adhesive strip under the tape attaches to the bar, not the tape itself. And apply some pressure over the tape to make sure that adhesive makes proper contact for adhesion that does not unravel. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...50602286_n.jpg |
