Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Awesome! Did Brent ride in his faux tri gear? How'd you do? Also, my buddy was disappointed to find out you were married haha.

that's what I was thinking. leg looks fully extended before it's even at it's lowest point. but then I looked at the first pic again and I was confused, so maybe it's just the single/outfit

Woke up late with a hangover. Went to the co-op around 1:30 to help tear down Bike Mountain. Tensioned and trued my new wheel, ate some cheap pizza, and sat around the firepit for a few hours with my wife and friends. I'm now on the board of directors for the co-op (working towards becoming a legit non-profit concern), and tech guy and planner for the sprints event at one of the biggest bars in town.

Life feels really good today.

cornering over rough stuff, may be extending leg to give saddle some bump room.

Brent ended up borrowing a costume on site and going as a garbage can. I did 34 out of 38, about the same as last week. Thought I dropped my chain going over the first barrier and pulled aside to fix it, which put me at DFL so I was pleased to have passed a few racers before the finish.

Yeah, it looks weird there but it's gotta be an artifact of the photo/costume/my position going through that corner. I think I was leaning in pretty hard (kinda looks like my right knee is angled in a bit) plus that corner is about to go uphill so I may have been already starting to get out of my saddle. I'm pretty sure I have my saddle positioned correctly, but I will double check tonight to be sure.

Edited to add: Husband just posted a video of me during the race. Doesn't look like the saddle is too high to me...

A trick I learned is that if you just learn to take in deep breathes by inhaling and exhaling, you kind of get the same high as you would smoking lol.

Just take a second and try it, it feels good.

Today I am looking into buying a set of track drops for riding at our local velodrome. I'm thinking these should fit the bill:
