hamfoh 02-02-12 03:53 AM

today I did my taxes

Street rider 02-02-12 06:07 AM

Today I found out that my bill for school is not $2000, because my Pell grant finally went through, and I now only owe a few hundred. So stoked

So weird, I have never ran into people like this on any of my group rides. Maybe I'm just lucky? The only thing even close was some new dude moved here and joined our San Francisco -> Mountain View commuter group. He was a tri dude and wasn't used to riding in groups. He was surging and weaving and being generally annoying, but after a couple curt warnings, he got the picture and smoothed out his style in the pack.

Sorry, Dan, maybe just **** luck? Good job dropping his dumb ass though! You were on a fixed, I assume?

PeDDeR27 02-02-12 11:30 AM

Today I set my alarm an hour and a half earlier to wake up and study for a quiz. I spent that 90 minutes online and took my sweet time getting ready. Oops..

On a better note, according to FedEx and USPS both of my packages are out for delivery! Scrambler V3 and Exustar straps from Scrod. :thumb: The straps got here a lot faster than I expected! Hopefully both packages are here when I get home from class. *crosses fingers*

I do the same thing, but only so I can stay in bed for that extra hour and a half.

Sometimes I feel like being on a fixed causes one to have to 'earn' his or her respect around other cyclists who appear more 'serious.'

hamfoh 02-02-12 11:54 AM

today I drove to a bike trail across town that I haven't ridden in probably 5 years. some steep/curvy areas and it was raining half the time, some regrets about showing up brakeless as I skid down an area by accident (couldn't stop completely and the turn was still way faster than I liked).

anyway about 4.5 miles from my truck on the way back I got a flat and realized I left my levers in my passenger seat (after I removed the tube mind you). walked that sum***** back in cleats and gave my new rims some "character". jesus

So many times they automatically assume youre a newbie to cycling or never do any kind of demanding riding. It gets damn annoying at times, especially when on a demanding ride

TMonk 02-02-12 12:16 PM

ironically enough, I have found there to be an inversely proportional relationship between trash talking/"hot stuff" attitudes and one's racing cat or general level of experience on the road.

xavier853 02-02-12 12:30 PM

Today, I fixed a shifting issue on my road bike where the rear derailleur would slip and shift up on occasion.

TMonk 02-02-12 12:42 PM

cable tension?

Not exactly. I did not have the correct screw to mount the cable to the frame, so I rolled it in electrical tape and fit it in for the time being. Found the correct screw and now things shift like they should! lol

Today I paid off one of my school loans and feel great about it. 2 more to go. Working on another at the end of the year.

Also booked my ticket home this weekend to check out the truck. They dropped the '49 Chevy off yesterday and I am amped to see it. Guess it has caused quite a stir at the house my old man was saying.

Oh yeah, I also decided I am picking up RB021s in 2 weeks. Getting rid of my Cateye Wireless computer and going to a Knog Nerd I think.

I guess I have been conditioned differently because there is a guy in my usual roadie group that rides a custom Seven Ti fixed gear almost exclusively. He is an absolute animal - everyone respects him. When you get dropped badly, we call it getting "Chang'd" (his last name). He also does this with a HUGE freight pack that's at least 20lbs. I'm convinced he is not human.

Today I'm studying for an exam at 2pm. I have no idea what I'm reading. :o

ddeadserious 02-02-12 01:22 PM

Today I received my Kagero. Tonight I will put it together.

Leukybear 02-02-12 01:54 PM

Today upon closer inspection of my wheels on my commuter I realized my front open pro has hairline cracks around a section of grommets. That was a short run. =/
I think veeps are a good compromise.

Today I started learning C++. Prepare for 1337 h@x.

Jandro 02-02-12 02:13 PM

Today I:

Bought my Mastodon/Opeth tickets @ The Fox Theater in Oakland. So ****ing stoked.

Wait till you hit your first coding groove. More satisfying than a runner's high. I managed to knock out 6 weeks' worth of homework assignments in 6 hours last semester, and I felt like a ****ing champ at the end.

That's awesome. I recently finished my undergrad program in linguistics and I want to get into machine translation and AI development type of stuff, so this is my first practical step in that direction. I used to do HTML coding for personal webpages, but this is my first foray into real programming. Long road ahead, I'm sure...

Unless it's a requirement I'd say don't bother learning c++. Especially if you're using it as a tool for research in other fields as it'll just get in the way. Check out a Lisp and/or Prolog instead, if you have the choice of course.

Today I'd like to figure out how I'm going to route two brake levers to the same break, that is, without dropping $35+ on a ProblemSolver cable doubler...

seems so simple... but alas
