Your bike has sure come a long way since your acquiring of it on ebay in a drunken stupor. :thumb:

I placed 3rd in a roller race this weekend. The format was everyone does a time trial then the finals are 1st vs 2nd and 3rd vs 4th. All of the participants were bike racers.
I qualified 3rd (saddle was too low). I won the 3 vs 4 final with the 2nd fastest time of the night. I should have been in the 1 vs 2 final, but oh well. A elite/pro BMXer won it all. I averaged over 215RPM for 20" in both rounds. Peak RPMs were over 230. Won $50 cha-ching! Winner got $200. |

i read somewhere that elite level bmx guys basically have sprinter's power profiles. obv not the same max wattages, but their races are something like >1000W for 5+s, take a turn, 1000W for 5s, go over some whoops (sp?), >1000W kick.... |

Actually, their power is the same or greater than track racers. The Andy Coggan reports that highest Watts / Kilogram that he's ever recorded was from a BMXer. Many great track racers (Jamie Staff, Victoria Pendleton, Chris Hoy) were BMXers. Shanaze Reade is still a BMXer that moonlights as a track racer every now and then. http://www.morethanthegames.co.uk/fi...%20Beijing.jpg http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...e-reade416.jpg She's a world champion in both sports: http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/...orld-C-007.jpg http://www.bikefriend.com/files/atta...oria_2_004.jpg And is pretty good looking: http://img.skysports.com/11/11/660x3...de_2682926.jpg |
BMXers stay in BMX simply because it pays more. A good pro rider can make $100K. Track racing in the US doesn't pay much of anything.

We had a local sprint series to promote a local effort to build a velodrome. Really fun and much harder than you think. Ours were 250m sprints so they were under 10 sec. My rpms are about the same as yours. My best time was in the 8.50 area. Question to you, what makes one good at these? Is it just leg speed? I am not a strong roadie and race CX at the B level. The first time I did the sprints I was in the top 3. I was very surprised.
10" efforts won't hurt. Sprint power runs out at about 8-10", then you fade....then it burns. From 12 seconds (give or take) onwards, it's about pain management and keeping your legspeed up and proper form while dealing with the pain. Later comes the nausea. Ours were 400M with 42/16 gear ratios (70.9 gear inches). Quite a few people puked. |
Oh h3ll! That sounds horrible. We were using 53x11. That has to be a huge rush of lactic acid to the stomach.

That's why I'm afraid of going clipless right there. I know I would eat it a handful of times before I got it.
I was being an idiot. Trying to climb a 16% grade w/85GI straight on. Should've started switch backs about 100 ft sooner. When I fell I was trying to do a turn in gravel. Can only write it off to jello-brain @ 60 miles. :p Have pulled the same hill w/79GI, so I thought I could do it...wrong! But, like I said I'm going back next week to try again. |
The benefits of clipless outweigh the one or two blows to the ego you may have.

I received my Syntace Stratos 200's in the mail today! So stoked!

dude beat me like four seconds before this was taken... |
4mi walk through the wetlands trail with the wife and dog. then 380 pushups, using a deck of cards (drawing two cards per set, generating a random set from 4 to 22).
my first cycling jacket should show up tomorrow, so i'm planning on riding to fencing practice. forecast is for 52F at 9pm when i ride home. i'm betting the cool weather jacket and a real jersey should be fine. |
are you sure you're not

Had some storms roll through the area early in the day. Around 5pm, sun came out and 55 degree temps. Great for a little ride. Checked the weather report, small storm cell to the north of us. A friend and I took off for a nice 20 mile loop out in the country. About 10 minutes into the ride, winds shifted and some storm cells poped up. We stopped, looked in front of us, and kept going. Was getting dark, but not horrible. *Me looking at the clouds...haha
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f9...2/95031b37.jpg Within 10 minutes, the skies grew dark green, the wind died, and the air stood still. Then, tornado sirens and lighting / thunder started up. We rode to a random house and knocked on their door. They put our bikes in their garage and took us into the basement. Weather channel had a tornado on the ground within 10 miles of where we were. At this point, we were 16 miles into our ride, and about 9 miles northeast of my home. Big thanks to the family who took us in. They ened up being real cool! Called up my roommate when things cooled down and he picked us up and drove us home. My friend Jeff Smith snapped this photo as the storm started rolling in. It got pretty wild. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f9...48313096_o.jpg .Chris |

http://i2.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/...-the-World.jpg heh, no. i just seem to find off-beat ways to stay in shape and i've always been good at combat sports (judo, kali, boxing, historical fencing, SCA armored). 42, and i plan on putting up a fight when it's my time. |

Finally cut the steerer tube on my new fork... tomorrow I need to have the LBS swap the crown race over and also borrow my bf's wrench (yeah I don't own one, wtf) AND THEN IT WILL FINALLY BE COMPLETE. I hate the purple bar tape I bought but I'm also too cheap to replace it until I have to.
