Today was the first time in a LONG LONG LONG time that I had a decent, american made schwinn between my legs. It was good.

hairnet 04-19-12 04:25 PM

My Schwinn was Japanese-Taiwanese. felt noodly

Today, finally got my track bike back! Take a look at the old BB that I had replaced. The cups were that bad and I'm glad I finally got around to replacing. Could have been bad.

Today I was a bar tapin' fool.

New levers, calipers, bars, stem and chainring (42/16 110BCD -> 46/16 130BCD). Love these cane creek levers, so solid.

Old:

New:

Also fixed the bizarre ergo placement the previous owner set up on my 'Cross:

Then:

Now:

The SS tape is new (had two sets, why not?), managed to salvage the 'Cross' tape. SW8.

Did you and EpicSchwinn have a nice time?

Did you take it out with a screwdriver and a hammer? WTF?

Seriously. It looks like someone used the back of a clawhammer to adjust those cups.

I should clarify. I bought my track bike on craiglist and the previous owner had stripped the teeth to remove the cups. He then drilled the cups to use some short of clamp to tighten it down. Unfortunately, that made it very difficult to remove. My LBS had to get creative to remove it. But, the grooves and gashes were actually there before the LBS. Don't know why you would ever do this. Those little bits to the right are the teeth to the cups.

IthaDan 04-19-12 06:21 PM

Other than being ugly, were the bearings in the cartridge shot? Was it creaking? Those look like aluminum cups.

Today I set my highest arcade score on Marvel vs. Capcom.

The bike was epic but I'm not sure if epicschwinn morphed into a bike that I ended u peddling for a couple miles.

The word "good" means many things; that's why a picture tells a thousand words.

The "P" stands for pie.

Found out that my baby, a 2010 Surly Karate Monkey that I wrenched my ass off for, bled, went nights without sleep working that second job at the LBS, is being sold back to me. I drove home after finding that out and almost cried. I pawned that bike to pay rent and ****ty circumstances put it out of my reach. I'm so happy to have my baby back alongside my Handsome Devil. The only thing prettier is my wife and even she said she's worried now that there are two other "ladies" competing for my love in the house again:p

It was bad enough when it was just the Devil:p

Young Version 04-19-12 07:46 PM

Today I accidentally participated in a time trial.

LesterOfPuppets 04-19-12 08:31 PM

Today I took some pics of the raddest mixte ever. Hoping to take it for a spin the next dry day we have.

Today I had a fantastic Session at the pumptrack, and installed a new hard drive in my computer.

Today, I had my ball joints replaced on my Impreza(which has made me enjoy my car all over again), returned my Keo Plus pedals to REI, bought some Serfas Supreme Grip tape, and rewrapped my MASH bullhorns.

Oh yes. The bearings were shot. The cups were drilled. It was well past it's useful life.

Something tells me it needs pink bar ends. Looks awesome though.

Today I did a recovery ride from yesterdays climb... by climbing some more. Joining a "team" has put a ton of pressure for me to be faster :|

Today I worked for the first time after a 2.5 week vacation. It felt good, but those nine hours kicked my ass.

hamfoh 04-19-12 10:40 PM

I bet that grip is comfy, but man is it an eyesore in that pic

ddeadserious 04-19-12 11:25 PM

Yeah, it's not the best grip tape, but I got it at cost at the LBS so I figured I'd give it a shot. I guess we'll see how comfy it is, if the comfort factor outweighs the aesthetics, then I'll leave it. If my palms are still hurting, then I'll at least wrap the bars in something nicer looking.

Muffin Man 04-19-12 11:42 PM

Performed at the 49ers groundbreaking ceremony for their new ceremony. It was pretty cool. I saw a glimpse of myself on tv.

I've had a hard time not having some form of hand pain on those bullhorns on long rides regardless it seems. haven't tried a thick tape though

:lol:That's a bit disheartening. I always feel rather uncomfortable for the first 3 or 4 miles, where I switch hand positions about 40 times, then I finally settle on one(generally right on the bend from the flats to the horns) and stay that way for much of the rest of the ride.

I'm thinking about giving drops/hoods another shot though. I just don't want to drop(pun) the coin on decent hoods and end up disliking the setup.

I don't think it looks too bad - aside from it being wrapped backwards.

RGNY 04-20-12 07:17 AM
