headwinds. lots of them. now that i'm home the wind is totally gone, of course.

Oh, and there's seriously insane amounts of pollen on everything... guess who had to ride past a street sweeper uphill? i held my breath.

Today I rebuilt the sqrl's dad's front 88 cause loose spokes. No idea how it was still in one piece. Average spoke tension was like.... 30kgf, with some spokes that wouldn't even register on the tension meter. Only 20 spokes too.

Came out well.

Also rebuilt my Formation Faces yesterday now that I have a tension meter. Pretty damned under tensioned. Also came out well.

sinikl 04-11-13 11:47 PM

When you say rebuilt, do you mean re-laced, or just retensioned and retrued? I never thought about checking spoke tension periodically...

I attempted to just correct tension, but it was too far gone, so just starting from scratch was actually easier. I probably spent 10 minutes trying to tension before I said **** it and just redid the damned thing. Probably took about 30 minutes. Fastest wheel yet.

If your spoke tension was good to begin with, then it will stay that way unless something goes wrong (i.e. accident). He's crashed at least once, and just doesn't want to tell me. It's pretty obvious.

Today I made pies with the sqrl and I've never peeled so many apples before in my life.

So? Use the weight and muscle to your advantage!
Gravity is on your side this time. ;)

Is that slang for something?

I think you have gravity backwards.

Nope. Apple pies.
I was being figuratively optimistic with gravity part but then again there's more weight on the pedals when in a climbing position. :p

Nagrom_ 04-12-13 12:32 AM

I'm convinced it's slang.

Training.Wheels 04-12-13 12:53 AM

Today, I bonked out so hard on the hills of SF on my Bianchi. It was only a 4 mile ride, but it was all STEEP hills and I was on my way to have my first meal of the day. at 6pm. Never ever going that underprepared calorie-wise again. A couple of people stopped to complement my bike, though, so I felt less ****ty.

excluding you not eating all day, sometimes you just need to warm up more before hitting the hills. During my Fleche we did Skyline Drive in Daly City, which normally would have been brutal but I had like 22 hours behind me.

That makes total sense. As soon as I got off the Civic Center BART station, I was gunning it and gave myself no time to warm up.

Last night I was hanging out with a sqrl and a group of people that were friends and people I just met. Was weird because we were all packed into one dorm room. And then I walked outside and there was 1/2 inch of slush and snow on the ground. Eff U Michigan, its April.

Nagrom_ 04-12-13 09:35 AM

what time do you start work? the only way i can ride in the AM is if i ride to work, and that means i have to wake up at 4:30.

SpeshulEd 04-12-13 10:14 AM

Tonight I see Sigur Ros...I should probably listen to some of their new tunes today.

Schedule varies depending on morning meetings but typically I'm on the work shuttle at either 8:15 (non-riding mornings) or 8:50 (riding mornings). When I ride, I'm out the door at 6am.

sweet!

TMonk 04-12-13 11:33 AM

I was exceptionally disciplined this pre-season. Being single and not waking up w sqrlfriend every morning helps.

At my peak volume (december-jan) I was up at 5:15 and out the door by 6:00 for 3hrs of riding T,W and Th. Hit 17hrs one week. Thank god those days are over (not because i have a gf :( ) and I can sleep another hour or two in favor of shorter more intense workouts.

cali_axela 04-12-13 11:54 AM

Man, I have a hard enough time just waking up at 8 to get to work by 9, and it's only a half hour ride. I can't imagine being disciplined enough to wake up reliably that early for morning rides... massive props to you guys. What time to do usually go to bed before doing that? I always end up staying up until at least 12:30 - 1:30 even when I try to go to sleep earlier.

That's hilarious. Where's the Type-R badge tho?

TMonk 04-12-13 12:26 PM

im usually in bed by 10:30-11 on weekdays, a little later on weekends. also im flat ass asleep within 10 min of getting in bed almost always.
I need to be having a lot of fun to stay up past 11:30.

It just an internal clock thing. I'm a morning person. For example, I can stay up drinking w co-workers/friends, pass out at 3am, and still wake up by 7:30 at the latest with no alarm. It sucks for me when every1 is sleeping but I usually just go for a walk and come back w breakfast burritos.

seau grateau 04-12-13 12:28 PM

Oatmeal is never the right temperature.

i usually bed by 10:30 on weekdays and get up at 5:30 (4:30 if i'm riding). sleeping in on saturdays means i sleep until 7:30.

also, alcohol consumption makes me sleep even less.
